Wingspan - What if it was a 3-disc anthology?

We must agree to disagree. I think any artist who releases a "best of" should be able to put any of their work on it. For example, Eric Clapton's could have White Room and Sunshine Of Your Love (Cream) and Layla (Derek & the Dominoes) as well as his solo stuff like Tears In Heaven and Wonderful Tonight.

But he was the main creative force behind those bands right? Not just 40%.

If you don't see a difference between artist/band relationships such as: Iggy Pop and the Stooges Neil Young and Crazy Horse Bob Dylan and "Bob Dylan and the Band" Paul McCartney and Wings and relationships such as: Joe Walsh and the Eagles Neil Young and CSNY Paul McCartney and the Beatles ...I don't know what else to say. (edit: by the way, I researched Cream some more and I was incorrect there. Clapton to Cream was more of a McCartney to Beatles relationship, than a McCartney to Wings relationship - however, he is the only currently famous person associated with the band and retrospectively it is fair that he's seen as the talent of the band, so I can understand how they've compiled a few Cream tracks onto Clapton albums. It simply would not be historically fair to put Beatles tracks on a McCartney retrospective. Wings tracks? Yes! Of course!)

For most artists, I've seen "best of" CD compilations that includes the artist's input in his former famous band as well as his solo work: Sting - Police Clapton - Cream, Derek & the Dominoes, Blind Faith Steve Winwood - Traffic, Blind Faith Lou Reed - Velvet Underground just to name a few. I dont see anything wrong with a "best of Macca" CD that includes everything he did from 1970 to present. I think the Beatles are 1 of the exceptions since they are a such a huge, distinct entity & Macca/Lennon had prolific careers of their own. I'm really surprised that Olivia/Dhanni threw in some Beatle songs (albeit live songs) on George's best of compilation. There were many great George solo stuff that could have been put on there. Plus, ironically, George spent his entire solo career trying to separate himself from the Beatles.

I'm not so stupid that I can't see the artist/band relationships that you speak of. I just believe that a 'best of' Macca album could (and should) include songs like Yesterday and Eleanor Rigby where there was clearly no John or Beatles influence.
