Well, what he said is true "They're beautiful boys and the girls can fantasize about being married to them...or whatever." Just like we did with the Beatles Paulie!!

Just another manufactured boy band. I don't know any One Direction songs and really don't want to.

Listen to the song they sing,
            Awakening

I think he's just being diplomatic. He doesn't say that they're talented like he did with the Jonas Brothers but he said the true. They're beautiful boys and that's the big attraction. He said on what they're like the Beatles but he didn't say that their music is as good as Beatles' and I see, from my point of view, that he wanted to say something kind so he wouldn't look bad and he had troubles to express that. I don't think he really listens to them.

He said he's exposed to them and listens to them because his daughter does. I don't find it all that strange or shocking that a father to a preteen girl knows about One Direction.

Paul's not one to pick fights with anyone (publicly). No Twitter wars on the horizon, I'm sure!

They're making a big deal of what he said. He only tried to be polite. Now they're saying he said they're talented while he didn't do so. If I had a group and Paul McCartney said that the attraction of my group is that we're cute I wouldn't feel that good. Isn't the point of musicians to make their music being their big attraction? It's on my local newspaper "I like one direction - Paul" ugh.

Another possible (?) factor in his saying this--he has a whopping six grandsons, they could later form a boy group themselves! (Just being facetious--being related to Paul, no doubt several might show real musical talent perhaps equal to James McCartney's--James is pretty awesome, his songwriting, singing and music playing abilities!) Maybe his granddaughters and youngest daughter will display vocal and over all musical prowess too. Stella, I've read, sings really well--but she didn't choose to pursue it for her career.

One Direction are the next Jonas Brothers who were themselves the next ... well hell, I can't even remember. The ridiculousness of comparing these types of "bands" to The Beatles never ceases to amaze me.

I think the grandson thing would go over well but it seems that when they are a child of someone famous people have the same expetations and the get more criticized.

I doubt that he likes them. And by liking I mean that he have all their records and sit in his chair and listen to them. Impressed by their musical adventure. He's just seen them on TV, or youtube... and don't want to hurt anyone or look 'old and uncool'. A diplomat at play.
