IMPORTANT Question

Is Mr. Bellamy a cat?!
Paul has never come out and said this. In fact I've read his explanation of it and he says he doesn't know who Mr. Bellamy is. Some theories are that it's an anagram of "Mills betray me" referring to his ex wife. However, I like to think Mr. Bellamy is indeed a cat. I picture him in a tree: I'm not coming down No matter what you I like it up here without you That's the way I see it anyway.

That was actually 'the talk' before Memory Almost Full was released...not sure where it started...but I think Paul actually described it as a desperate man wanting to jump from something (suicidal)
-
Yeah, I've read that too. I prefer my cat in a tree theory

Definitely less morbid...but I'm afraid I just remembered where I heard the other explanation - I have a version of MAF with a bonus disc where Paul explains various factoids about the songs from that album...and his that was his explanation for Mr Bellamy
-
In the interview that came with my CD (bonus disc that Rich describes), Macca says it's about a fictional man, but I like your cat theory as Mr. Bellamy is a great name for a cat!
I do like this song quite a bit, esp with the various parts Paul sings. Sounds like someone must have used an anagram generator on the album
as the title seems to be an anagram for "For My Soulmate LLM" but Macca said it was just a "spooky" coincidence, but he liked it. Just as cool as "Lonely Hearts" reading as "One He Die" on Sgt Pepper when cut in half with a mirror!
LOL

If I ever got a cat, I am definitely naming him Mr. Bellamy!

Yeah, I should've mentioned he said 'fictional man' who was thinking about jumping
-
A fictional man jumping...fair enough. But if I ever wrote a short story or poem about a "fictional man" jumping to his death....I think my friends and family might have me committed! I would be like, "no, no. he's just a cat in a tree. not to worry friends!"
-
They probably wanted to have you committed for insisting on actually going to Abbey Road to get your pic taken (me too!) LOL You're a true Beatles fan!
-
My wife and I (and her mom and brother) did a 16-day trip to Europe about 7 years ago...we did 4 days each in London, Paris, Zurich and Amsterdam....was a great trip. We saw some amazing sights, ate some amazing food and drank some amazing wine. Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, Stone Henge, etc., etc. I'd be lying if I said Abbey Road wasn't the highlight of the entire trip though.
-
Sounds like an amazing trip!! My wife is from Bath originally which is a fantastic English city in the south west of England. I definitely want to get back to Abbey Road, see Apple Corps., and see various Beatle sights around the London area and Liverpool. Now if I could only convince my wife
LOL

Just listened to Mr. Bellamy again. The image of Mr. B being a cat in a tree, changes the song completely into a really funny one! I already liked the song a lot, but the cat thing gives it a total new dimension
-
Some of Paul's best songs are about animals!

Quite fun, isn't it?!

I always thought Bellamy was the name Paul uses for his visits to the sanitarium. (Just joking)
-
I often wondered if Mr. Bellamy was about the Antony Gormley statue on the roof of The Roundhouse. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wCD_10rqkvY/UVBEksY2FwI/AAAAAAAAINU/S7sE53HVR3A/s1600/bl_Gormley+418+Roundhouse+Invisible1.jpg Podgie (I noticed it when seeing Paul at The Proms) Monkey

Could be where the idea originated.

Paul said in the interview that comes with the deluxe edition of this album that "Mr. Bellamy" is just a fictional character he invented--like Elenor Rigby. His music seems to be riddled (no pun intended
) with various fictional characters.
-
Paul says a LOT of things. The stories evolve.

Really? Like which ones? (i'm not being sarcastic here, just curious) Thanks...
