My Goodness, the Grammys have a Best Boxed Edition category? I had no idea. It's becoming like the Olympics letting in tennis and no doubt at some stage gridiron or Aussie Rules Football. That been said, Wings Over America is the biz. The best live album of all time, in my view. Only took thirty plus years. I lurve it. A worthy, worthy winner.

I'm very happy to see "Cut Me Some Slack" nomination. How cool!! And very special for "Live Kisses" to get a nomination, too.

In 2011 he won for BOTR Deluxe Edition (Best Historical Album) You can search for past winners here: http://www.grammy.com/nominees/search?artist=%22Paul+McCartney%22&field_nominee_work_value=&year=1994&genre=All&=Search I didn't know he had won Best Instrumental for Rockestra in 1979!

Wow, I did not know that either! I mean, Rockestra is an enjoyable piece, and I like it, but (especially considering all the talent playing on it).... Grammy worthy?

"Cut Me Some Slack" is a cool performance, but Best Rock Song is a songwriting award. Maybe it's just me, but I think it's a little loosely and casually written, more like a jam, not any great "song" per se. Not that I expect sanity from the Grammys; I mean, they gave this award to Eric Clapton for his Unplugged version of "Layla" twenty years after it was actually written and had already been a classic in its original version!

I can't work out how Cut Me Some Slack was nominated either. If it was put on NEW, it would sit as a welcome addition, but in that 7-9 best song on the album category. I don't really rate the Grammys, as it is. Lost credibility a long time ago.... Probably around the time they started to recognise Hip-Hop and rap as music..... The Oscars and Emmys, at least, have stayed true to their values....

Let's not forget that "Hey Jude" lost out to "Little Green Apples" back in the sixties. Never much credibility in my mind.
-
Ha ha,... okay, I still can't reconcile myself with the fact Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields was denied number one in UK by Englebert Humperdinck... But Little Green Apples??.... Beating one of the greatest songs of all time... Never heard of it!

I guess I can understand why the song "New" wasn't nominated even though it was eligible (not popular enough for Pop, not rock enough for Rock), but if "Live Kisses" wins anything, that will just reinforce the image that he's not relevant anymore. And at this point, it's hard to imagine that the "New" album will be remembered next year by the Grammy voters. Not out of the question, I suppose, if he really flogs it on tour next year, but it will be an uphill climb.

The Grammys have a gazillion categories these days. Only about two artists won't get one for the year. It's just like Billboard that now has about a gazillion charts. Just about everyone reaches No. 1----on one of their charts.

Not necessarily. It will just show that he can do anything....any type of music that's needed for whatever occasion. If you want hard rock, he can do that; if you want standards, he can do that too. He's that talented. That, IMO, will be what is reinforced.

Well...let's just hope Paul gets his.

Well, I hope so. On the other hand, they show so few actual awards on the show these days, no one will probably notice what he wins anyway. It will all get buried under the Beatles tributes, too.

Didn't one of Paul's reissues get this nomination last year, as well? That's when I first heard of this category.

Actually, the Grammys have been reducing the number of categories lately. They no longer split into male and female anywhere, and some categories, like Best Rock Instrumental, have disappeared completely. But you're definitely right about Billboard!

I'm imagining that Sirvana will get an invite to perform on the show. Anyone else thinking this?

David Bowie, Led Zep, Neil Young, Black Sabbath nominated in Best Rock Album category
If "New" had come out sooner, Paul's would have snared a nom, too--or is it too "pop" --more than rock? Would that have prevented it?
