A thread I recently started on the under-appreciated Paul song that I love, "I'll Give You a Ring", has got me thinking about all the songs Paul has written that are hardly known or do not get enough appreciation. What songs in particular do you find are under-appreciated? What makes them good songs in your opinion? And why do you think they are not well-known or more appreciated? Would love to hear other people's thoughts and opinions!

Maybe it's because I have a soft spot for Tug of War, but I've always thought Take it Away is one of his best singles that doesn't get a lot of love. Also from that album, Somebody Who Cares (gorgeous) and Ballroom Dancing (fun and catchy as hell, and that bass!)

Dr. Beatle, "Take It Away" is one of my favourite Paul songs too, especially love the middle parts ("Lonely driver, out on the road...") - definitely deserves more recognition in my opinion. I'd never heard that song before, Kapoo, really really good! Thanks for posting the link Some others that I think are fantastic are "Tomorrow", "Little Lamb Dragonfly", "You Gave Me The Answer", "Treat Her Gently (Lonely Old People)", "Magneto and Titanium Man", "Warm and Beautiful", "I'm Carrying", "Baby's Request", "This One", "Friends To Go", "Promise To You Girl" and "The End of the End".

^SgtPepperFan, glad to see another Take it Away fan! I love the video for the song, too. For more recent songs, what do people think of Only Mama Knows? I think it's a great song, really heavy with some uncharacteristically bleak but powerful lyrics from Paul.

I love Only Mama Knows! My other favorite 'under-appreciated' songs are Tomorrow, Beautiful Night, No More Lonely Nights (I agree with all of yours, SgtPepperFan48!) Wish he'd do some of these in concert.

under-appreciated - 'the lovers that never were' and 'heaven on a sunday' these would be awesome live

Agree with you on the "Take It Away" video too, DrBeatle! Love it, one of my favourite of all of Paul's music videos! And I think the exact same, NancyR, seeing Paul play these songs live would be amazing! His back catalogue is filled with so many hidden gems that it sure is a pity they get ignored. But let's try not turn this into another setlist thread

Good choices. When I first listened to Flaming Pie, I didn't like Heaven on a Sunday. I thought it was a little too sedate, I guess. But recently, when I had Flaming Pie on, this song stopped me and forced me to play it again a few times. Really beautiful song.

Some have been mentioned, but I'll repeat them anyway: Dear Boy Eat At Home (By the way, when he did "Too Many People" live, that was one of the top thrilling moments of any McCartney concert for me!) Yes, for sure, and many of the Cold Cuts songs, too, as well as a bunch of other unreleased ones. (Forgive me if I don't describe why I love each one of the songs in my list!) Yeah, I should have said Baby's Request, too, and Love Awake! I would have said Only Mama Knows and Sing The Changes, but I figured he's played them live so many times they're not underappreciated, right?

Funny, Back Seat of My Car and Smile Away are two of the main reasons I refused to own a copy of Ram for over 40 years. My top underappreciated McCartney song is Single Pigeon. A close second is Feet in the Clouds.
