Here's my mad take on the new album: I'll even venture to suspect that the entire audience will receive a copy of the album, just like Prince did during his 2004 tour

I love Paul, but give out free albums? Even if you've paid $250 for concert tickets? Paul? Free stuff? I would not hold my breath.

                audi:

Here's my mad take on the new album: I think it's already secretly done. And -- in kind of a David Bowie-strategy -- it will be released, seemingly out-of-nowhere, on the opening date of the tour. I'll even venture to suspect that the entire audience will receive a copy of the album, just like Prince did during his 2004 tour -- and that particular album quickly darted into the Top Ten (of course, Billboard has since changed its rules). It just doesn't make sense to embark on such a punishing tour-schedule like this in the summer -- and not promote an album ... ...that's supposedly not due for release until November. C'mon. We shall see.

Your theory makes perfect sense, Audi. Unfortunately, Paul has occasionally toured without a new album (like the last couple years) and released albums without touring. And there have been enough oddities over the years in Paul's handling of standard bits of album promotion -- singles, videos, etc. -- that one is forced to conclude that just because a strategy would make sense does not at all guarantee Paul will do it. As you said, we shall see.

I agree the album is probably done and he'll probably play some new songs during the tour. He always seems to have something new, as he did with My Valentine last year. I do not think he will be giving the album away at the concerts. Nice idea though.

Ads for his upcoming tour do mention...."all new..." He could just be deleting some songs that need to be given a rest and adding some from the past, but......new material seems likely as well. Audiences don't necessarily want to hear something they're not at all familiar with, or for the first time, at a Paul McCartney concert, so it would seem he would release a new album before the tour begins to generate some buzz and interest and take it from there.

I'm sure somebody mentioned it on another thread about his new album on this forum. I'm beggining to think I've imagined it now Paul , Ringo and Geoff Emerick rings a bell ...

All new is kind of funny because I am quite sure the set list will be like you mentioned. McCartney tours in 1989 and 1993 featured quite a few new songs from his most recent release and the world did not end for the audience - lol. Recently I watch a old video of McCartney's 1993 concert in Charlotte that was televised by FOX, crowd seem to enjoy the new songs from "Off The Ground". I agree if new record is ready, it would be wise to release it before the tour begins but since tour starts soon don't think that will happen.

                                  Maybe I'm amazed !!

On the other hand, he could certainly preview one or two about-to-be-released songs. At the 2004 Bridge School benefit, Paul played "Follow Me," introducing it as "one we just recorded," and it went over quite well. Of course, I still want the new album out yesterday.

I can't see the new album being released till October time - to catch the Christmas market. Wings Over America and Rockshow will be out soon so he won't compete with them. He is then on tour May to August and there may be other dates announced as well. So I do hope it is finished as i cant see when it would get done with all the touring he is doing. As many have said it's a long time since the last album of original songs ( not counting EA ) Many of the songs on MAF - the last album -predate CACITBY so could be from 2005 - so it may well be 8 years !

I agree, why risk oversaturation with the general public? (Two albums to promote, a film, and a tour all at once). I'm sure many of us would be fine with that, but I'd think it's all been carefully mapped out. Perhaps this will be the summer for WOA and North & South America. Wouldn't be surprised to see a break in the tour after August, then the new album indeed sometime around the holiday season just in time for - perhaps a European tour and/or return to the states in 2014.

Actually, I believe the album Paul will be promoting on this tour is the "new" "Wings Over America" reissue. He can sort of play the same list of songs now that he did on his first tour in America, after the Beatles, which resulted in the great "Wings Over America" album, and it will be an all new show! Loved the start of that one..."Venus and Mars/Rockshow" right into "Jet"!!! I read he has been rehearsing numerous songs that he performed on that first tour.
