Paul songs that don't sound like Paul songs
-
Talking about his new album, Paul is saying that some people are "surprised it's me" when they hear the new songs. What songs does he already have that are like this? "Ou Est Le Soleil?" and the Fireman stuff (especially the first two albums) come immediately to mind for me. "Motor Of Love" you certainly wouldn't guess until the vocals come in.

A lot of his songs sound different from each other, he has a lot of variety. That's the hallmark of a superior songwriter. I did see that some people said the song "New" reminds them of various Beatle songs he wrote. Some of his "Chaos and Creation" songs were much more introspective and revealing than his "usual" work. More personal and intimate. And darker, in that he seemed more aware of life's dark side and sadness. "Too Much Rain" stands out, it's gorgeous, and emotional too exhibiting great compassion and empathy. He showcased those qualities too in "Let it Be," "Eleanor Rigby" and "The Long and Winding Road," for example, as a Beatle but still, some of the "Chaos" efforts would not strike you as typical for McCartney's writing. Much more introspective and personal. "End of the End" from MAF and the long one about the horses too.

That surprises me: I think it SCREAMS Abbey Road-era Beatles.

It does strongly echo the "I Want You" guitar riff, for sure, although the keyboards are very Jeff Lynne.

To me, "Light From Your Lighthouse" is very different. Has a Leonard Cohen'esque haunting vibe. But it has that Bob Dylan dynamic, too -- when Dylan was in his religious phase.

The Fireman - Light From Your Lighthouse [2008]:
If Paul dared to do it, there's no doubt this song would be a highlight at his concerts. Very easy to sing along with. -

"Let Me Roll It" is a clear parody of Lennon. Sounds nothing like classic McCartney.
-
Almost all on "Electric Arguments," maybe (?).

"Riding to Vanity Fair" gets my vote. Meanwhile, "Light From Your Lighthouse" is the perfect example of why the Fireman stuff leaves me cold. It's a potentially great song utterly destroyed by production choices that undercut its charm at every step.

I love Light from your lighthouse as it's been produced. Vocals are awesome! Is this song written by McCartney? It sounds as a revisited old classic.

I found "222" very unusual for Paul. .

And, yep! Paul wrote it.

I don't get that track. It's one of the reasons that I'm lukewarm about "bonus tracks" in general.

Really Audi? I usually agree with you, but I happen to love this Jazzy number
really love the horns at 1:03 and 2:24 and also love the bit at 1:56 just a great number I never tire of hearing. Not sure why you don't like bonus tracks? They may not always be cohesive with the whole album, but to me, they're like an extra surprise present that you weren't expectingAnother one that I love with video is Blue Sway! The music fits that video so well and I'm right there riding a wave, in the curl... LOVE IT
Paul's songs are all so varied, they aren't really cookie cutter or formulaic. Did he ever do more with the Spanish 12 string guitar? Paul goes in so many directions with music and then he's still always pulling another surprise out of his magical musical mind. He's so inventive and innovative I'm always amazed at the next brilliant thing.
