Mmmm..."retiring." He's been Paul's PA, go to man and confidante since the 70's. Got a bad feeling about this. Brings up heaps of "what now?" and "where to from here for Paul?" questions. Chief among them, future touring plans.

I saw that post on the Steve Hoffman forums, and I'm calling BS on this story. That post has NO source. I googled for news on the story, and nothing comes up except for the post on the Steve Hoffman forums. Until I see something official, I'm not believing this news.

If it's true the important question is where do I apply for the vacancy
-
Well, I checked back on the Steve Hoffman forums, and it looks like the info is accurate. This is an interesting development...

Correct, no source cited, but "Etcetera" does seem to know his stuff. I'm skeptical too, but it would not floor me if it comes to pass.

I wonder if he will write a memoir of his time working for Paul. That would be an interesting read. I just hope it's not a tell all if he does write it.

One of the important people in the back. I don't know what it means when somebody like him quit. It seems to me that somebody younger will often take the place with some kind of a rearrangement. I found some John Hammel credits on McCartney records here: http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/john_hammel/credits/

True. Someone should check tonight and see if John's breaking in an apprentice
-
Young Jim could take the position. His music career is pretty much dead in the water.
-
John must be an OAP now so I don't blame him for opting for an easy stress free retirement away from the music industry.
-
Being on call, and catering for a huge ego, in and out of airports, hotels, ...not as enticing as it sounds... He deserves a relaxing, healthy retirement...with the freedom to do what he wants, when he wants...for himself. But obviously a tight connection between he and Paul and a genuine friendship and respect for each other. This isn't an Elvis/Charlie Hodge situation.

"This is Charlie Hodge. He gives me my scarves and water." I love Elvis.

So do I.

While this source is close to the fire - he called ?Pipes Of Peace? and ?Tug Of War? as next ?Archive Release? project 13 full months before the ?Coming Soon?-card appeared - for every piece of inside information which comes true in the end, there are 9 who don?t at all, from alleged album names or projects to track lists with potential ?Archive Releases? material. The one thing doesn't exclude the other of course, haha.

At the PETA event this week when John was on the stage before the concert, someone in the crowd asked him when he was retiring. He said he was not retiring. He seemed surprised to hear the question. Thought I'd pass that along.

I hope this is the case, I have a real soft spot for John... ops: ops:

So this happened. Felt weird without him. The new roadie even is doing the same shtick.
-
Had the new guy been in training?

John "Charlie Hodge" Hammel knows when to jump off. Obviously he sees what a few on the board see.
