John Hammel

...This isn't an Elvis/Charlie Hodge situation.
The quintessential sycophant.

So he was just an assistant? Darn. I was hoping he was somebody more influential on making decisions. McCartney desperately needs new blood to take his brand further.

Being on call, and catering for a huge ego, in and out of airports, hotels, ...not as enticing as it sounds... He deserves a relaxing, healthy retirement...with the freedom to do what he wants, when he wants...for himself. But obviously a tight connection between he and Paul and a genuine friendship and respect for each other. This isn't an Elvis/Charlie Hodge situation.
"This is Charlie Hodge. He gives me my scarves and water." I love Elvis.
"...and sings harmony with me."

A few snapshots I made at the first night in Vancouver:
And of course, "they want to keep rocking!":

That Mt Rushmore head....Hamish Stuart lookalike.

Mmmm..."retiring." He's been Paul's PA, go to man and confidante since the 70's. Got a bad feeling about this. Brings up heaps of "what now?" and "where to from here for Paul?" questions. Chief among them, future touring plans.
Good for him, enjoy life.

He was back with Paul today for the BBC show. (I posted this earlier in another thread) coming & going

Thanks for this, also saw on YouTube. Was carrying some bags to the car, though wasn't driving. Maybe he has scaled things right back and is just working in the UK. Love seeing John, he is just a familiar face.

I saw him in a restaurant once. I thought he looked familiar but I didn't know where I had seen his face. He left in a hurry. Strange that I saw him there at all.

I saw him on a long haul flight to Antigua reading an article on Paul in Q magazine about 18 yrs ago. Surreal!

What happened to John Hammel? We don't see him at concerts?

Retired or fired?

Retired. He is apparently still doing some things for Paul in London; I saw him in a video of Paul's departure from that BBC interview he did recently. But definitely retired from working on the tours.
-
I think John turned 65 last autumn so he's definitely up for semi-retirement at least.
