Show should be over... anything to report?
Hi everyone, back from the concert. It was electrical, magical, everything terrific. Paul was in top form, and did wonderful. Same setlist as Bossier City, Louisiana, except "Birthday" was sung after "Hi Hi Hi", in the encores, in place of "I Saw Her Standing There." Just before "Birthday," two fans that I met at "limo watch" were on stage, and asked Paul to sign their arms for tattoos. Another girl and her mother had their arms signed as well, before the others. About 1/3 through the show, just before "We Can Work It Out," Paul looked into the audience and read signs. He read a few, then read the one I'd written "Macca Makin' the world a little better since 1942" when he read it outloud people cheered, and he looked genuinely touched for a moment. I was so moved by this that I hid my head behind the sign, so I have no idea if he smiled or what, lol. Maybe there will be a video on YouTube. When he sang Queenie Eye and New, the audience really got into the songs. After Queenie Eye, he looked really touched and just looked at all of us for a moment, and then gave an approving thumbs up. When it came time to do "Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End" I had a sign prepared for the moment when he said, "There comes a time when we have to say goodnight" etc. and the audience says "Noooo..." At that moment I held up my sign that read "Don't Stop - Keep Singing - We'll Bring You Coffee!" But because the poster paper had a shiny finish on it, the lighting reflected on it where he couldn't see it... he just squinted his eyes and couldn't make it out... Anyway, I just quietly put it down and "Let it Be" I was so happy with just getting the other sign read, that second sign didn't matter I just held it up to make him laugh, because no one wants his concerts to end! Two other things from the show I noticed that were different.... 1) Someone catapaulted black panties at Paul during the final bows, and they actually landed on his head for a second, then hit the floor He was a pro about it though, and just ignored it and said his goodbyes as usual. 2) During "Here Today" he stood on a platform that was raised high in the air as he sang, with projected lighting / designs on the front. That seemed new to me, but maybe he's had the platform at other shows recently. If I think of anything else, I'll add more.
I love the fact that people really got into "Queenie Eye" and "New"! I love them both. Great review!

Thanks guys! Was such a magical evening that I'll never forget. Seeing him live is such a wonderful experience, nothing compares to it!
Correct! Thank you, Lady Leslie, for sharing your limo watch story and your concert experience! I loved reading it, your happiness and excitement came through loud and clear. and I'm so happy that he read your sign!
Thanks, thenightfish! so sweet of you I'm glad you enjoyed my "travelogue" I've only been a serious fan of Paul's for about a year, so many of the experiences you all have had at concerts are old hat, but is all new and exciting for me. ,It was the thrill of a lifetime to be able to see him, and to hear him read the message I wrote. I'll never be able to forget it, lol. I'm sure you all have wonderful stories to tell about your concert experiences too!

_______________________________________________ Great little article how Paul gave VIP Treatment (and free tickets) to 13 Blind and/or Visually impaired employees from the Envision Company in Wichita. As a huge Macca "music" fan (not a fan boy type) I do think he is genuinely a very nice, humble and caring man especially considering people started calling him a genius by the time he was in his early 20's. For someone with all his money and fame, he seems to be very down to earth. As some of you have seen, while I have been constructively critical of his setlist on the One on One tour, that does not take anything away from the fact that I think he is a great human being and person in general.

Soundcheck list?

Soundcheck list?
I didn't have a VIP ticket, so didn't make the soundcheck. Sorry Hopefully someone else from the maccaboard was there?

Oh, what a great sign LadyLeslie, I love it! I am so happy he read your sign, yes, if anyone sees YouTube clip of it, please share.
Found a video of him reading the signs at Wichita.
Mine's at the 01:22 mark Noticed something interesting after he read mine... his eyes moved away to read another sign, and people called his name, etc. At that time, I was so happy he had read mine, that time seemed to stand still... I was shy and hid my face behind my own sign which I was still holding up and wasn't paying attention to what he was saying in the moments following.... After he started singing "We Can Work It Out" the High School kid next to me said, "Wow, he read both of your signs!" and I said "I've only been holding up one" and he said, "He mentioned the Sign My Butt one too" And I said, that wasn't mine, that was someone else's... I'd never be able to hold up a sign like that! I'm too shy!" and the kid said, "Hmm.. but he was looking right at you and said, Sign My Butt.." and I just said, oh my Lord, I'm so glad I didn't hear that... I'd never be able to And the kid just laughed outloud. I shyly hid myself behind my sign so was totally obvlivious... it's funny what the kid told me, but it's possible someone near me had a sign that said that... or maybe Paul just needed to point to someone in the audience in order to deliver a funny line, who knows It was a magical evening though, no matter what, and I'll always feel very grateful to have had the opportunity of seeing Paul and hearing all of his beautiful songs! Will never forget it! -

Thanks, Oobu! Thought the little boy's sign was especially cute. He must be a huge Paul fan and looks like he's only 6-7 years old! He was probably the youngest fan there, which is great!

Yes, that is very thoughtful of him. I saw several blind individuals at the Des Moines show but they were not together as a group. I used to do work for blind/v.i. students and am always impressed by the independent living skills so many of them are able to master. Attending such an event is challenging enough for a sighted person.

So the Westburough Baptist Church showed up at a Paul show to hold up signs. I heard there was an official meme that had their signs replaced with famous Paul lyrics I don't know what they were protesting about Paul, but he must be doing it right

From where we were standing at limo watch, I don't remember seeing these protestors at all, but they must have been nearby, because we were on the opposite side, facing the arena, on a similar grassy area. Not sure why they felt they had to do that... maybe because Paul is kind and supportive of gay people? or maybe they're just now hearing that the Beatles think they're more popular than Jesus? who knows.... At any rate, I'm so glad there was a group of us there who were able to have signs with positive messages, and that he was able to see those last before he entered the venue! After thanking them for their warm welcome, this was his response on Twitter:

I actually don't think they were there to protest Paul at all since there was no official statement from them as to why they ere there. I think they were only there because they knew the event would draw a large outside crowd and they could be seen....and that makes it even more wrong. It's one thing to stand up for your beliefs and protest something you think is wrong like military funerals (I don't agree with them but I agree with their right to protest...and my right to counter protest dressed as a zombie and pretend to eat them and watch them run which is a bizarre comments on their beliefs in the afterlife) but in this case, they were just there to ruin our fun. it's also like they were protesting comic book conventions. I assumed they were there since comic books are pretty dark and twisted (that's why I like them) but nope. they were there simply protesting that people have an interest in things outside their personal religious beliefs. they were actually saying things like time spent reading comic books was better spent reading the bible. Now that really upset me as someone who was always told she liked all the wrong things all her life When I was reading Star Trek novels as a child, my mom said I should be reading about the saints instead. I had to stand up and defend myself using the old cliche, the Heart wants what the Heart wants Plus, I was bullied by the religious people in our small town. they made it clear I wasn't one of them Guess what? You don't do that to someone you wish to convert to your beliefs. I explained that to a WBC church person who was protesting at a gay church in Ferndale, MI and he actually apoologized that the bullying happened to me. still won't convert me though. It's too late.

Thanks for your post, KathrynO! So sorry you were bullied, no one deserves that! You know you have friends here! I can identify with many of the things you wrote because I was raised in a very conservative religious environment as well... and have seen first hand the hurt that is caused by judgmental people... I've been hurt as well for asking questions that they didn't seem to like, or didn't know how to answer, lol... and went through the same thing where my parents didn't approve of any hobby or activity that wasn't "church oriented." When I was 15, I remember seeing on TV that Wings would be in Kansas City over Memorial Day 1976... at that time my Beatles fanship had to be "in the closet" since rock music wasn't accepted within the religious environment I was in... but I wanted to go and see Paul, and asked my mother anyway. I remember her saying I was too young, and also she was afraid that there would be a lot of drinking and smoking (and she was just thinking cigarettes ) and out of control behavior, and "someone could jab you with a needle of dope!" Have no idea where she got that from Anyway, even though I'm not gay myself, I believe it's wrong to be unkind to ANYONE, or to discriminate. No one ever scores points for their beliefs when they're judgmental or unkind. I liked what Whoopi Goldberg said in The Ron Howard Beatles documentary: "The Beatles made everyone feel welcome.... " I think that's true, and I think the world would be a much better place if we all did try a little kindness! (to use a line from a song, lol).

I remember watching a documentary of the Westboro Baptist Church a few years ago.. The reason they protest concerts, award shows, and such is because they claim we "worship false idols." They claim that we attend these "worship" events and idolize these false prophets, but we should be instead worshiping God. They are not at these events to try to "covert" anybody, but they claim "they are just saying the word of God" by doing what they do. They are here to "warn us" because they "love their neighbors and they don't want to go to hell." : Lol it's interesting and comical to me because their own signs are very hypocritical to me. I was raised a Catholic and I attended private school my entire life. I DO happen to be gay myself, so according to them, I am probably going to the hottest place in hell. They says "Gays can't repent," but it's only ok for them to repent?" lol If you aren't familiar with the scriptures, in Roman Chapter 9, it gives the analogy that God is the potter and we are the clay in his hands. The twins Jacob and Esau, before either of them could do bad or good, God already had a plan laid out for them. God loved Jacob, but Hated Esau. SO God created some people as vessels of mercy, and others are vessels of wrath for destruction? Made for the express purpose of destroying them. Of torturing them in hell for eternity. God making you do all the things that you do and blessing some and destroying others. Go why does God find fault for who resisted his will? So he makes you do it and he punishes you for it? We can't resist God's will, so are we already destined to be destroyed without ever having a chance? In 1 John 1:9, "If we confess out sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." So how can He, is some of the "bad" people are already made for destruction? The Westboro Baptist Church sincerely believes they are warriors for God, when they don't see their own hypocracy. (P.S. I know some of my text went off topic a bit lol But I am just speaking what has been on my mind since I heard the Westboro Baptist Church was also protesting outside the Omaha show! I was there!! :lol

Thanks so much paulmccartneyfan1 for posting your thoughts and insights and scripture references about Westboro. I never thought the "worshipping false gods" thing would be an issue with them... but feel they're not looking at it from a better perspective. I believe artists such as Paul have been given a unique and wonderful gift, where their music can inspire and uplift many people, and in sharing their gift the world can become a better place. I also feel he's been led to do a lot of good things with his life, and support a lot of wonderful causes, and he's been blessed by being in a position where he can help them in ways that he woouldn't have been able to otherwise.. Rather than "worshipping" the celebrities we admire, I think a better word is "appreciate". People appreciate all the good work they do, and their wonderful gifts, and want to be supportive of the good work they're doing. Nothing wrong with that! It probably means a great deal to Paul to know that people appreciate him, and his work, and that probably provides a lot of support and encouragement to him. Just because someone is famous doesn't mean they don't need that... or that everything is perfect for them all the time... we all need encouragement and support In my opinion, the Bible also says "God is Love" and that he(?) doesn't judge or discriminate... but somehow people are just seeing the fire and brimstone part... which is unfortunate... that's too bad the Westboro group was protesting in Omaha as well... but I'm sure Paul probably wouldn't want to waste a second thinking about them too much... he'd probably want to concentrate on things that are more uplifting and positive.

I totally agree with everything you just said!! Couldn't have said it better myself!
