I've always felt that I Can Bet sounds very familiar. I just realized it sounds disturbingly close to Get Back. It reminds me of The Rutles parody of the song. I guess if anyone has the right to do it its McCartney. Anyone feel the same way?

That's so funny, I was going to start the same thread. I agree, it does sound very close to Get Back. And Everybody Out There sounds close to Losing My Religion by REM. And the opening to "New" sounds close to the opening of Zanzibar by Billy Joel. Weird....

        7/15/11- Yankee Stadium
        6/8/13- Barclays Center
        7/5/14- Times Union Center
        8/7/16- MetLife Stadium
        9/15/17- Madison Square Garden

        Thank you Paul!

I can see the similiarity but "I Can Bet" still stands as its own distinct song. I hope that one day I can hear it live. Would love to hear Abe's drumming on this great rocker.

Nope, don't see much resemblance. Better song though.

Get Back will always be known as a Beatles classic. I Can Bet won't ever even be known as a McCartney solo classic. They are similar in structure on the chorus, both repeating "Get Back" and "I Can Bet" in a similar fashion, both with a guitar riff after each line. "Get Back" repeated is one note, "I Can Bet" repeated is three notes. Get Back is a much better song. If I Can Bet was originally written and recorded by, say, Garth Brooks, no one on this forum would give it the time of day.

Yes but it's only considered a 'Beatles classic' as it was recorded under the name 'The Beatles'. If Paul had written and recorded 'Get Back' in 2013 it wouldn't be regarded as a classic

The chorus, 'I can bet, I can bet, I can bet....' sounds similar to some small extent, but otherwise not that close

I always felt Junior's Farm was a re-write of Get Back!

Now that IS a better track than 'Get Back'. I can't hear any resemblance between the 2 though.

That would be true of any song that Paul has ever written wouldn't it?

Not Silly Love Songs. Or Uncle Albert. Or Listen To What The Man Said. Or any number of interesting McCartney-ish tunes that were hits. I Can Bet is a good song. But it doesn't smack of a hit. Maybe thirty years ago it would have been.

No argument here. Junior's Farm is a great song!!! It's also much better than Save Us, which, like I Can Bet, is a good song, but not to that level.

One could likely say that for any number of solo Beatles songs...especially several by George, IMO. The Beatles, as a group, were magical, so whatever they did had a specialness about it that received extra attention. The media always refers to Beatles songs as classic.

Good call about the chorus, funny I didn't think of that, usually am all over stuff like that. doesn't take away from I Can Bet to me, thats a good one. good lyric from Paul, par for the course on that album.

I stated that earlier on another thread: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=87470&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=285 the funny think is how some people took it as a negative remark. here is what I wrote:

                                      Ammar:

                                      Andrewhh:

Track 10 - I Can Bet Produced by Giles Martin. This is McCartney at his poppy best. It's like the best Wings single that never was. It has a fantastic swagger to it that is epitomized by the line "What I'm gonna do next, I'll leave entirely to your imagination". There's a guitar riff in there somewhere that reminds me of something on "Memory Almost Full" and a short synth solo that is pure Wings. But then there are some aspects of the production that place it firmly in the present. The trippy ending is cool.

Strange! the chorus is copied directly from"Get Back"! melody & guitar riff I can Bet - Get Back same riff I can Bet - Get Back same riff I can bet you?ll never guess - Get Back the way you once belonged otherwise the song is very strong and I like his voice here, the most amazing part is: Cause what I?m gonna do next I leave entirely to your imagination the way the words sit on the melody is another way of showing how genius this man is not only in melody but in lyrics.

                                      Love is all you need

I believe that the songs bare minimal resemblance. Minimal. A little breathing guitar lick, and that's it. One lends itself to rock, the other pop. Totally different productions. I Can Bet is a very enjoyable song, but Get Back is perched far, far above it. Totally different feels and vibes, as far as I am concerned. 3.5% resemblance.
