I really loved London Town. Still do. Back to the Egg not so much, and still do not think it is one of his better albums. Although coming out only one year apart (who does an album a year anymore?), he could taken the best of both albums and made one truly fantastic album...London Egg or Back to Town. But Wings ended after Paul got out of Tokyo jail in 1980. That was the turning point. He decided to stay home and made McCartney II instead of doing another Wings tour.

According to an article in the most recent Beatlefan mag, Paul did McCartney II to try and lure Lennon out of retirement...he had heard rumors that Lennon was showing signs of doing some songs again...and to show Lennon that he, Paul, could do experimental work ala Yoko, and maybe the two of them could work together again at that point. Jack Douglas who produced Double Fantasy has said in the past that Paul and John definitely had plans to work with Ringo on a project he had going in Los Angeles in early '81...and that could easily have led to John and Paul getting back together on a project....maybe with Ringo and George joining in....

Well, I think there exist an 1980 "McCartney II" promotion interview with McCartney where he say something like 'you can't reheat a souffle' on quiestions of a reunion. For my own part, I can only imagine a reunion at Live Aid in 1985.
