I have just heard a completely different album! Please go grab headphones and give this another listen. Only headphones are picking up subtle sounds, sonics and background noises. Very very interesting what comes out... This is far more complex than I first thought....

I second that!! Headphones are the way music is supposed to be listened to; makes all the difference.

Exactly, everything should be heard in headphones as least once. But hell yes Steve, the sound on this album is insane. Tons of subtle stuff going down Julie Brown.

I couldn't agree more, the headphone experience was not only better it was much different from the car or home stereo. You really get the value of the recoding mix, so much more offer for the listener. You hear something different in the background very time. Alligator and the Road!

Note of caution: Be careful of any fillings when listening to Road. Adjust volume accordingly...

I'll have to try headphones. I found a BIG difference from listening on my computer to listening in my car.

Perfect example is Queenie Eye. On my PC, you cant hear anything in the slow, middle part... In my car, with a midrange system, the middle part over modulates every time and I have to turn it down a bit to save my ears. On headphones.. I hear it all, every nuance, every trick and I like it.

Thanks for the tip! I've listened to it about 3 times in my car since yesterday but got it on my iPod today. Can't wait to listen to it through the headphones now! I'm really enjoying this album.

I concur! I had it on in the background and after my first listen I thought it was a clunker, then the next day I just cranked it up and heard a different CD, a much better one. This morning I heard it twice through with my headphones and absolutely loved it! I went through the same thing with Chaos. First listen I thought it was a clunker, but now I think it's his best album.

Just curious as to what make of headphones all of you are using. These Sony headphones I have just don't seem to be delivering the same listening experience that many of you are having. These are nice, padded headphones, not one of the cheap ones, probably about five years old. For me, New has sounded best in the car on JBL speakers, better than the headphones or the Bose speakers on the stereo system.

I generally agree about the car stereo sound, nothing sounds better that when its in my car! but I always pick over music while listening through headphones. thats when you hear it best IMO, truest to whats actually there. and I just use the standard iPod earbuds.

I can't believe that I haven't given this album "the headphone test" yet! I discovered that MAF has some nice bells n' whistles when I listened to it with headphones.

Just a relatively cheap pair of Sony Noise Cancelling Headphones.... about $50 at Best Buy. Over the head, padded ears... I normally pack it away for the flights, but pulled it out after I heard way too much reverb and over modulation on the middle part of Queenie Eye. I decided to just give it a try to make sure there wasn't something wrong with the actual recording. There wasn't... I have a horrible PC speaker system and not that great of a car stereo (which I didn't notice until now.) I then went on to listen to the entire album this way. Just an unbelievable difference on the listening result. Again, like a totally different album. There is a lot going on here. My kudos to the producers. There are many layers here... So, like I said before, beg borrow or steal someone's headphones and give a listen. You will see...

Thanks, Steve, that sounds very similar to what I have. Mine are aging though and probably need replacement.
