"NEW" and "Dizzy Heights"
-
I'm looking forward to receiving my copy of Neil Finn's newly released album, "Dizzy Heights". He is sort of like Paul in terms of pop music sensibility...and is always a bit Beatlesque. I sort of want to compare his and Paul's albums!!!
-
Waiting for my copy as well. So far, while I've liked all of Neil's solo albums, I've liked the Finn Brothers ones better, and of course Crowded House. I predict that "New" will win this round, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if I'm wrong!
-
Have them both on Vinyl. So far New is more obviously appealing to me , but as always with Neil, Dizzy Heights is growing on me all the time...
-
I love Neil Finn's music! I will buy his new CD and am sure I will love it!
-
I love Neil Finn's work either solo, Crowded House, The Finn Brothers and not forgetting Neil and Tim Finn's original band Split Enz. I paticular love The Finn Brothers's album Everyone Is Here. It's a classic. I must get Dizzy Heights soon.

I love every single song on the Finn Brothers' "Everyone Is Here". Play it all the time. "Anything Can Happen" would have been right at home on "Rubber Soul". And yes, Crowded House.... Their album "Time On Earth" just totally gets to me. A few years ago, 2010, our little schnauzer puppy girl, Astrid (Asti), was nearing the end of her life. That album became my "Asti Album". The songs "Pour le Monde, "Heaven That I'm Making" and "English Trees", in particular, just summed up my feelings/emotions precisely. Tears welled up when I listened to that album while lying on the bed with her. It sort of became a daily ritual. Her full sister, Ingrid (Ingi) had already gone...the year before. Sorry, getting carried away. But...Crowded House ...yes, so very very good!!!

Well, the Neil Finn album is pretty ethereal. Not bad, but "New" is much more commercial, I would say!

Uh, after listening to it.....it sounds WAY over produced and much too busy. I missed just hearing him....that voice...it was finally on cut 8 that I finally could appreciate HIS voice. Not sure what Neil had in mind, but I doubt this will be played much by me....I'll try again, but it's just too busy and overproduced for my taste. Maybe it will grow on me...but... (And why are his albums so very very loud!!!! I have to turn it all down from the precious CD I was listening to, 'caue it just blasts me out of me seat!!!!)

Paul McCartney should collaborate with Neil Finn and stop this nonsense of getting "modern" producers with the hope of winning young fans, which will never happen. And NEW is about as commercial as Dizzy Heights, if at all. So far, enjoying Neil's new CD more than Paul's.

Crowded House was a great band. Saw them a few times. Woodface is a magnificent album. Australia's (well the Kiwis might take some credit) second greatest musical export after INXS.

I agree with everything except I think they blow INXS away.

A mini-series on INXS just aired here the last couple of weeks. The prime-time ratings were huge. Has reintroduced them to the young folk. Not sure if there is any sign of that being aired yet in the States?

Toward the end of listening to Neil's album a second time. Enjoying it more, now that I knew what to expect. I guess if he were going to make an album that sounded like Crowded House, he would have made it a Crowded House album, with those guys, right? I still think "New" is more commercial than this album, which spent just one week on the Billboard chart, at #130.

I was hoping for something more like the one he did with his brother...."Everyone Is Here". Love that album.

I love it too, but I have to give him credit for trying something different this time. I think back to "Sinner" on his first solo album, and then the whole Pajama Club project with his wife a few years ago: do you have that one? More melodic and rhythmic than this one, but somewhat experimental in its textures too.
