I've noticed in the past, Paul would play, "I Saw Her Standing There" rather fast... But these days, he plays it rather differently. Before I assume anything, I wanted to get the forum's feedback.. Note, I am a huge Macca fan, but this is bothering me and any explanation (I don't play the guitar unfortunately) would be great! Past:

      (1960s?)
      (1999)
      (200 Fast forward to now:
      (2014)
      (2014)
      (2015) Thanks again! ops:

I don't perceive much of a difference. If there is, it is slight. Abe is actually setting the tempo, you and hear him on the high hat before Paul counts the song in.

The big difference to me is that now he ends the song differently (higher) than the original record. Otherwise, the speed seems about the same.

Those are all almost the same. Videos #2 and #3 are the fastest, but only a few beats per minute above #5, the slowest.

Sorry to bring this thread back up, but isn't it odd that the same chords are being played but his hand are much slower in recent times? Take for example this video,

Compare this video to lets say, the Cavern Club version and you can clearly see a difference in hand speed but still same chords being played? Sorry for bringing this back up again, but it seems odd and I'm not trying to attack Paul because he's my idol, it's just odd... Thanks again to all the replies to clarify! (Just to be clear, this issue is not tempo of the song, but rather hand speed of playing the bass)

I don't understand the question. What does speed have to do with whether he's playing the same chords or not?

It is likely Paul has merely simplified the bass line from what he used to play by removing a couple of notes in the riff. Hard to detect sonically, but easier to play and sing.

The issue with that particular YouTube clip is that Abe's mic is waaay too loud.

Basically, his strummer doesn't seem to match the sound in any of the newer vids.
