'Mull Of Kintyre' whitewashed from pop history

BOYCIE:
Paul always says he likes to play the "hits" live, so where is not only Mull, With A Little Luck, Helen Wheels, Goodnight Tonight and Take It Away to name just a few!
I would love to hear those!
-
I'd love to hear him play anything in concert.
-
"Mull of Kintrye" big hit, massive. not n the USA. Strange. At the time Paul and Denny were close, remember them being interviewed together, Denny not saying much though. Still think "Mull..." should have been the song Danny Boyle had asked Paul to play at the Olympics with a 1000 pipers
-
Seen him twice in Toronto and mull was the highlight both times.

There are a ton of hits he hasn't played live since he started back on the road in 2002. Some of them, he has never played live, period. The ones that come to mind are as follows: Uncle Albert Tomorrow With a Little Luck Goodnight Tonight Pipes of Peace Silly Love Songs Helen Wheels Take it Away Spies Like Us No More Lonely Nights Daytime Nightime Suffering Call Me Back Again My Brave Face He's been on the road for 13 years now, and there are albums of his, quite successful albums, I might add, that he hasn't even touched, or barely touched. RAM is one of his most adored albums and he has only played Too Many People a hand full of times. He hasn't played anything else off of the album. He ignores the entire Wild Life album, he ignores RRS with the exception of "My Love," and he has ignored Venus & Mars with the exception of V&M/Rockshow, and LTWTMS. He basically ignores his entire solo catalog in lieu of a Beatle heavy setlist, which is what he is catering to. I understand that. But the hardcore fans such as ourselves want to hear some Wings tracks. They don't even need to be deep cuts, though I would love to hear some. Beware My Love anyone??? I could go on, but I know that this stuff probably doesn't get read by his people. It would just be nice for a hardcore only show in an intimate setting. 1,000-2,000 people max, and he plays nothing but deep album cuts. I'd pay more money to see that, than all of the hits he plays in all the arenas around the world.

We don't need these 'experts 'to tell us who is #1!

All good points, for some reason Paul seems to "lack confidence" in some of his material, how cannot he be proud of MOK?! It's obvious the crowds would be ecstatic if he played it... Actually he could probably play anything and still make everyone happy, at least towards the end of the show. I remember that "Come and Get It" didn't work too well in 2011 but I think it was played fairly early in the show. Ok, now I'm going to give Wings Greatest a spin!

However, with the exception of 1994-1998, I'd say McCartney has been actively performing concerts for the last 26 years.

This is a good point. I never hear anyone talk about this song. I've never heard it played anywhere - except my computer. Yet it was such a huge hit. What's going on?
Are you in Hong Kong (as the message under your avatar says)? If so, this could be the reason for that...I live in the States and never heard it on the radio here except during radio specials showcasing Paul McCartney...The song was really only a big hit in the UK and parts of Europe (maybe Canada????)

Never, ever heard the song on the radio. In fact, I wasn't even aware of its existence until the '90s when I got my hands on one of the import CD-singles for Tripping The Live Fantastic.
-
just curious when "Mull of Kintyre" did come out, what did the American folk think of it? was it played on US radio at all?

Not sure the American public were given too much of a chance to listen to it. It was ignored by old-time radio. Huge in the UK and Australia, but for some crazy reason, ignored in the States..... I believe Paul was quite dissatisfied with the attention his U.S "people" afforded it?.... I mean, it is classic. Simple chords. Simple song. And beautiful.

It was first released in November of 1977. I remember it being played a lot on the radio here in the states in the late 70's and early 80's. Everyone I knew loved it! Am listening to it with headphones on right now. I think I'll probably listen to it two or three or four times. I just love it when they're all standing around the bonfire and singing. Extremely
!!! Simply Love It!

It is a wonderful "camp-fire" song! Agreed!

I could still hear people talk about it like they do other smash hits. No one ever talks about this song.

It really all depends on whether you listened more to Am or Fm stations during that era. AM stations would never play a song over 2 1/2 minutes long until Hey Jude came along to break the barrier. And, all because they are more commercialized. FM stations would play the longer songs like this one. It didn't get as much airplay as other songs, but it was played quite a bit none-the-less on FM stations. The more Rock n Roll oriented songs seemed to get more coverage, although.
-
it was played a lot in pubs here in the US. A great drinking song.
-
Is it played more in those U.S. pubs that love Irish music during the time of St. Patrick's Day holiday period?
-
It's record sales alone in the UK speaks volumes for how much the song was loved
