Using band members from after the Beatles who do you think would be the best four of them all to make the ultimate line up. That's folk from Wings plus the McCartney solo albums and tours Guest appearances don't count just band members Drummer Rhythm guitar Lead Guitar Key board

To be honest, I think his band now is pretty solid. Wix is able to replicate the sounds of each song - including the studio tracks - to the smallest little details. Abe's a great drummer and his light-hearted personality makes the performance that much more fun to watch. Brian and Rusty both hold their own on the guitar parts. I think the Macca band is pretty strong as it stands. -Rubber Soul13

The current band has lost a bit of its steam lately. Going through the motions half the time.

I agree, they seem very complacent most of the time. IMO - the clips I have watched there only seems to be spark when they did songs from "New" in the beginning. I think part of the problem is the same basic setlist and they have figured out the audience will go wild on any Beatle song so they don't even have to be that good.

            Maybe I'm amazed !!

I'd say Rusty on lead guitar. Although Robbie McIntosh may be the best guitarist McCartney ever had, Rusty is similarly technical -- but he has the grit of McCulloch.

Nobody tops Jimmy McCulloch on lead guitar. His solos on Maybe I'm Amazed, Junior's Farm, The Note You Never Wrote, Beware My Love, to name a few, could never be matched.

But he wasn't that technical of a player.

It hasn't been that obvious to me, though I haven't seen them live since 2010. But I'd probably get bored playing Hey Jude and Band on the Run for the 2,213th time. Though I must say Paul always seems like he's having a blast. I think these guys would do just great if Paul tossed out some of the old warhorse songs and really shook up the set list a bit. More solo stuff, of course, but also some rarely-played Beatles and Wings tunes like, say, You Won't See Me and I've Had Enough, and I bet they'd liven up a bit.

Only one guitar player Paul has employed as a sideman I would choose...David Gilmour. As for drums, rhythm, and keyboards, I'll stick with Abe, Brian, and Wix.

Honestly, I'd say Laurence Juber is probably the best lead guitar player Paul ever had post Beatles. No offense to anyone else that's played with Paul. If you've ever seen one of Laurence's solo shows, you'd know why.

I saw Wings Over America in 1976. I saw Paul live in LA in 1989. I saw Paul live in 1993. I saw Paul live in 2002 and 2009. All of the bands were first rate. There were differences, which will be preferred by some. But none really out did any of the others. They were all bands of their time and did amazing work in their day. David Gilmore is hard to beat on guitar. The closest I ever saw a guitar player match him in a McCartney band was Robbie McIntosh in 1989, when he took that guitar interlude before Eleanor Rigby and just blistered the guitar solo. I never saw Jimmy or Rusty do that.

Well, I think the only one who comes close to being "a Beatle" is Denny Laine. He put his stamp on Wings, Those who have played for McCartney since 1989 are good musicians but more like session musicians than band members, I think. It is perhaps not A Band.

I tend to agree. Paul wrote songs with Denny. Not with any of his "band" members since.
