I don't understand how some people can like McCartney and not like McCartney II. The parallels are right there in your face.

Perhaps in some parallel universe. McCartney is decent but flawed, the flaws made up for by some glorious moments. McCartney II ranges from pretty good (and not much of that) to fingernails-on-a-blackboard unlistenable. Seriously, my idea of Hell would be being forced to listen to Temporary Secretary, Nobody Knows and Bogie Music on an endless loop.

      I tend to agree!!

Ok, Nobody Knows and Bogey Music are not the strongest songs, but Temporary Secretary is great! I must have one step in that parallel universe .

still think McCartney was dark with some of the stuff Paul was going thru at the time. It holds up where as MC2 is stoned and made up...I like that more now ,,but STILL love the 1st one.

I think you caught something here, the various similarities and differencies, except that I've always been very fond of "McCartney II", I rate it high on album lists, top five... I remember in the 80s, when i was a teenager and I put on "Temporary Secretary" at parties, and I couldn't stop smiling, but my pals was like huh, what's this? They didn't get it and liked maybe other things McCartney, I felt that I kind of had "McCartney II" for myself.

            I would have to agree.

Certainly the release of the mainly homemade, quirky McCartney album surprised the music world. Not an album many would expect from him but then his whole career has been full of surprising twists and turns. And to not even release Maybe I'm Amazed as the obvious single, I still don't understand that, would of been huge hit for sure. I think he was making an early statement of "don't pigeon hole me". Now that I'm free of the Beatles (although he was the one who most wanted the group to go on) I will do as I like. A very risky and ballsy attitude in a business where you can be a superstar one day and a has been the next.
