Pipes of Peace Remastered Archive Set
-
Question about the Pipes of Peace Archive Collection. I bought the 2 CD package of Pipes of Peace from Best Buy. The Booklet that accompanies this set probably just copied the same booklet that appeared in the Pipes of Peace 1993 Remastered Collection Series (albeit just 1 CD with bonus tracks). I'm guessing that is the case. Unlike the new Tug of War Archive Collection 2 CD package, the Pipes of Peace booklet does not show the individual musicians for each song. On the next to last page of the booklet they tell you the performers on the Remastered Album but again they don't break it down to individual songs. I found this frustrating. For example, the list of performers at the end shows no less than 3 drummers...Ringo Starr, Steve Gadd, Dave Mattacks. Not sure if Andy Mackay is also a drummer (does anyone know). I assume that Ringo Starr plays drums on So Bad but is he performing on any of the other tracks. Also what tracks does Steve Gadd play on. I love the drumming on "The Other Me" and the booklet doesn't tell us which drummer is playing. If anyone bought the Super Deluxe version (that also contains the big book in the package), can you tell me if they give you specific information regarding performers for each track. Thanks

If nobody answers this I can get you the answer on Monday night when I get home from Louisville!
Abbey Road On The Rover is awesome! Many great Beatles tribute bands, plus last night The Zombies and tonight Felix Cavaliere and the Rascals. Also a note-for-note rendition of the LOVE album by over 25 performers (as a tribute to George Martin)

___________________________________________________ Is this an annual thing in Louisville. With enough notice, I would love to go to it next year. Do they have any Beatle festivals in other states?? And yes, if you know where I can answers to the Pipes of Peace questions, it would be great. I'm working on a project and the pipes of peace booklet doesn't give you specifics. For example: I love the drumming on The Other Me...who plays drums Does Ringo play drums on any other track other than So Bad. Thanks PS You think that when they come up with new "Remastered Archive" album they would have more specific information about the backup musicians.

I have the deluxe edition and the booklet doesn't list specific players on each track. The last pages do list recording dates on each track. I skimmed through the book and there are many great photos and some stories. I will look further later this weekend. A great book that I can recommend is "Paul McCartney Recording Sessions (1969-2013) A Journey Through Paul McCartney's Songs After The Beatles" by Luca Perasi. That does list players for each track.

There are entries in the book which have(?) where session players are listed but not 100% confirmed. Luca really did his homework on the book. Makes me look like a complete amateur.

And it is he who is portrayed as one of the horn players in the Coming Up video.

Yes, it's been an annual thing for 16 years. Started in Cleveland, then moved to Louisville. They used to do one in Washington, D.C. over Labor Day too. But this is the last year at this venue. It's moving across the Ohio River to Jeffersonville, IN. Go to arotr.com and they should have the 2017 info. I already got my 5-day Ultimate ticket to ride with reserved seating and put $99 deposit on the hotel. I didn't get a t-shirt, which the first 100 customers did, so "God Only Knows" how many people are as nuts as I am!
The price I paid was $159 for the 5 days which is only good until July 1, 2016, then they raise the prices. PM me with any other questions.
P.S. I also bid on a Gretsch guitar just like the one George played on The Ed Sullivan Show. It started at $1500 and it was between me & one other person. I went up to $1800 and I think he got it for $1850. (it is worth $3000 so I probably should have kept bidding!)

Many thanks for your compliments on the book. I tried to list players based on lots of research, still there are some (?), which I find the correct way to indicate you're not 100% sure. Anyway, list of players on Say Say Say for example is first hand information from Bill Wolfer; other are quite accurate (e.g. Through Our Love, So Bad) also based on interviews (Eric Stewart, Geoff Whitehorn). On some songs like The Other Me, Paul played all instruments.
