P. McC in a parallel universe, part 1: "beetles?"

Of course, Paul McCartney is best known by far for his solo work. Smash hits such as "I Want You To Fly" or "Lonely Road". He obviously hit his peak with multiple platinum albums such as "Flaming Pie" and "Driving Rain", and - of course - his biggest commercial success of all, Electric Arguments. A few people are aware of his work going back to the 80s and early 90s, and of his 70s work with his popular band "Wings", best known for songs such as "Single Pigeon" and "Wild Life" and other songs which we on this forum all know well. The other day, though, I came across a reference to an even earlier band that Paul was in, back in the 1960s! Apparently they were called "the beetles"?? Anyone heard of them or know whether they were any good? Just wondering in case there is a track or two out there by them that might be worth downloading. Couldn't find anything on Amazon downloads so I'm guessing not...

it took me a while but i eventually found a song called "In Spite of all the Danger"

Also, there was a song called 'Yesterday' which seemed to have some promise...not sure why it never took off...In fact, I think some buddy of his (guy named 'John Lennon'???) said it was truly the only thing he had ever writtern of note in all his years of this said 'beetles' band

Pete Best started off in this band then left to become one of the greats of all time.

Back in the '60s, The Beatles (is that how you spell it?) were so optimistic that some experimental album they recorded called Sgt. Pepper would turn things around for them. After that failure, they got dropped by their label, One Little Indian.

After a bit of searching I managed to find the tracks you suggested on YouTube (some idiot mis-spelt "beetles" with an "a" - guess you found the same vids, huh, audi?). Man, what a seriously lame band! They sucked alright! No wonder Paul never talks about them nowadays. Goes out of his way to avoid mentioning the subject in interviews I'd have thought, and who can blame him? Oh and rich, I searched all over for that "Yesterday" track you mentioned but couldn't find a trace of it anywhere.

After recently being voted the greatest album of all time in a Rolling Stone poll, Paul McCartney has recently announced that he will do an album only tour of RAM. The remastered version is expected to hit number 1 when released later this year and stay there for a long time.

There's some dee-jay who hosts a "Lost 45s" show on Sundays in North Dakota's local oldies station (AM). Maybe he might play "Yesterday" one day?

I wish Paul would play more of his early work in his life shows! I mean, Nod Your Head and No More Lonely Nights are OK, but imagine if he used some more obscure but better openers and main set closers like Magical Mystery Show and Hi Jude! I WISH PAUL WOULD READ THIS POST!

Oh come off it, there is no WAY he's ever going to play anything that obscure in his live shows! Main set closers? I doubt more than a handful of hardcore P-Mac fans have even HEARD these songs you mentioned. Are they any good?

Not true, Paul should just give his pre-solo career a chance, he might be surprised at how well they go down! Also, would it kill to have a show without Rudolph The Red Nosed Reggae? There's a rocky track off one of the Silver Beetles' records called Ive Got A Feeling that would fill that space so well, why will he never play such a perfect song live?

Since the setlist came up, I have to say that I'm a bit miffed that Paul changes the songs he plays every night. I mean, wouldn't it make more sense to pick, oh, 35 or so songs and play them every night of the tour? Then fans would know what to expect. I'm not happy with this whole "I refuse to play the same song over and over, and on every tour" attitude. Don't we fans have a say? x The way it is now, I'm not sure when I can take a bathroom break because he mixes it up so much and plays rarities constantly. cry
