P. McC in a parallel universe, part 1: "beetles?"

Here's what I don't understand about The Cockroaches (that was the name of the group, right? I can't find anything about this group on the internet, so I'm not sure if the name is right). Anyway, you have four relatively untalented guys who made the huge mistake of throwing out the most talented member: Pete Best. I mean, who would have heard of John, George, Ringo, and Paul if they hadn't been in Pete Best's first band? These guys are footnotes in musical history compared to what Pete's been able to accomplish since The Cockroaches faded into obscurity. If it weren't for the few songs Paul has written that were picked up by radio and you can still hear at parties ("Bip Bop" being the most well known), Paul would be a one-hit wonder.
I certainly believe the fact that his name became isoloated as a solo act help jettison his career...I don't see how that other group could help his career...maybe gain some contacts or something (???)

We all know Pete Best, Colin Hanton, Ken Brown, Pete Shotton & Ivan Vaughan went onto Super stardom with The Beetles, their music continues to touch generations but what happened to Ringo Starr, John Lennon, George Harrison & Paul McCartney. Ringo. After being kicked out of the band by Pete, Ringo became the voice behind Britrail commercials, he continues to work for Britrail as a ticket collector. John. John was seen as a goody two shoes, he took it the hardest when Pete told him he wasn't good enough, he drifted in and out of dead end jobs throughout the 60's before settling into a steady job with pampers nappies where he remained until his retirement. George. Emigrated to the States where he became a travelling preacher. Paul Paul reverted back to his first name, he stayed in music and can be seen fronting his own jazz band (The Jimmy Macs Jazz Band) on cruise ships heading up and down The Themes. Now 69, Jimmy is set to release his first album, "Kisses on the Rectum"

I'm still having a problem when I look at old The Insects photos. I can't figure out which one of The Insects was Paul. What with their shaved heads hairdo, it's hard to tell one from the other. Thank goodness the group's hair style didn't catch on with the public. Can you imagine?
Wow. How odd would that be? I was looking on ebay, trying to get some idea of what songs The Insects relesaed that the general public might be aware of, and didn't really come up with anything. I did, though, find one of their early albums, you know, before Ringo left the group to pursue his successful solo career, and saw that apparently it's rather valuable. The cover art shows the four guys holding babies, looking at them lovingly, and feeding the babies with bottles. I think it's called The Nursery cover. The censors proclaimed it the most wholesome cover of the '60's.

is this from when they shaved their heads? http://rookery9.aviary.com.s3.amazonaws.com/8584000/8584008_08f9_1024x2000.jpg

I believe so. I think they were called the "skin tops" because of the hair style. This is actually one of the only known pictures of that group, mostly because who wants to see photos of an unknown group of kids without hair?

now we know why they never made it

No kidding! This was the cover for their ill-fated and underwhelming Sgt. Pepper's album. No wonder it never went anywhere.
: I mean, really, who wants an album cover with so much artwork?

They only printed about 1,000 copies, and couldn't even sell those. Decca was right--guitar groups were on their way out, and this group didn't listen. That's why they're posing with anything but guitars on the cover, trying in a desperate way to convince the public they weren't one. Thank god Decca signed The Tremeloes instead. Where would popular music today be if they hadn't been signed?

I heard that they were so bad, the record company gave them a female front-singer from Asia, called Yoko or something, because they said "Well, it couldn't be any more worse". With Yoko, they made their only classic 'Revolution 9' which is still played on radio today. Soon, Yoko left because she was more talented than the other four together to make a solo-career. There are rumours that she was a long-time girlfriend of Paul, but only secretly. Some people also said she wrote the biggest hit in Paul's solo-career, called 'The Frog Chorus'. I heard that they want to make a musical out of this song in Las Vegas. Director is Heather Mills, the ex-wife of Brian Epstein who is known for being the manager of the Rolling Stones, Justin Bieber and Village People.

Wait a minute, Yoko was in The Fruit Flies? Wow...first Pete Best, now Yoko? Some bands are just the launch platforms for the more talented members, and I guess that is the case with this band. Now I'll have some interesting trivia for the discussion boards on Pete Best's website. Oh, do any of you have premium memberships there? I just got my Pete package in the mail, and I can't wait to wear my t-shirt to the next show!

Here is one of their few songs that even cracked the top 100: http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/beatles-what-a-shame-mary-jane-12-lp

I think I heard a producer named George Martin gained some notoriety for his work on a song called 'You Know My Name - Look Up The Number'..It's a lavish number

What are you TALKING about, man? Yes ok, that song was a minor hit in some countries, one of Paul's earliest breakthrough records, but never made any impression on the UK market, at least. Missed the Top20 and was largely ignored. Not even worth comparing to the massive hits House of Wax and Dance Till We're High. You read a British tabloid, and on the rare occasions Paul is even referred to in them it's always "Waxy House-of-Wax Impresario McCartney" or "Dancin' till we're High rocker P. McC". Lazy journalism is what it is, plain and simple.

Can someone help me, here? Apparently, there's a song Paul wrote called "Hey Dude" or something like that. It's supposed to be a really bland song, something not particularly catchy (like most of his work
. I can't find it anywhere online to listen to. Can't this guy write anything that would get a stadium filled with people singing along to it? I mean, really. Anyone who can write something as upbeat and peppy as "House of Wax" should be able to write another one.
-
'Hey Dude' was evidently written after the response he heard from his illegitimate son, who was 8 years old when he first met him

Huh, and here I thought Paul didn't have any children. He's been known for his anti-family and anti-marriage stance, what with being a bachelor for the past 40 years. Some folks just don't believe in love, I guess.

I have read that they had a drum solo on a song called The End, it was played by Yoko Ono who had been flown in at the last minute as their drummer Dickie Starkey couldn't do it. I think they had a couple of top ten singles toward the end which included, The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill Flying Dig It. They tried touring and performing live but had to give it up as they never attracted more than a few hundred people and sometimes nobody turned up. Its a shame we dont know more about this band tho, Paul needs to remember these days instead of trying to forget them.
