P. McC in a parallel universe, part 1: "beetles?"

I wish he'd talk about the Beatles more often. I have almost forgot them.
You've heard of this beetle band then, have you?

I found a video of theirs on youtube--they're a guitar band, and that's why I am not familiar with them. Give me something classic, like The Tremeloes. Now THAT's music. Maybe Paul could do a cover or two of some of their work for his new album?

With all the great bands out there today, I'm surprised Wii put out a version of Guitar Hero for such a little known band

I'm still waiting for my pre-order of Rock Band: Plastic Ono Band to come in.

Apparently in the 70's Paul collaborated with Fela Kuti in Lagos to record an LP of African music. It was a commercial flop.

If he were a feature on an e pisode of Sliders I bet the Beatles in that dimension would be ruling the world. love doris

[Note to all posters: Part 2 of P. McC in a parallel universe will take us to another parallel universe, but in this thread we stick with the scenario detailed in my first post. Please avoid straying into alternative universes within this thread as it is bad for your health. Some posts have been going that way, so be careful! If you have ideas for other Macca-related parallel universes you'd like to explore in ANOTHER thread, please PM me. In the meantime, there is plenty more discussion and exploration to be done in this one. Thank you.]

Plastic Soul Man:
F**K F**K F**K you have just ruined 6 weeks of planning for my next series on my blog. It will have to sit on the shelf for a while now. You're like bloody Rod Stewart!

Good thing I know Plastic's a massive fan of Rod Stewart, or I might take that as an insult in reward for my hard work. Oops... almost slipped into a separate parallel universe myself there. Sorry! I wonder whether there was ever any press coverage at all of anything Paul did with his beetle band? Possibly not, but there's probably a hardcore fan or two on here who may be able to dig out something?

yeah from what I've heard this 'Beatles' band were so cheesy.. this one guy I know told me that at one point John Lennon was obsessed with telling people how great Jesus was, saying 'Jesus is way better than us!' he siad this managed to drum up the only small period of good will with fans that the band experienced. a couple people actually went out and bought their record.. what a waste!
that Lennon was such a bible beater... and I hear Paul was such a loafer, just doing whatever he was told in the studio... Ringo though I've heard was a real genius, just a shame he was brought down by the others.. (classic idea Illwobs!
)
-
I think one of Paul's biggest problems is that he hasn't explored different genres. He's stuck in one type of music and doesn't seem to have the slightest inclination to put out albums that are diverse. That might be why he plays such small venues, and his ticket prices are so low.

Oh wow, Kapoo, you seem to be a bit of a nerd on this subject! So who was this John Lennon chap then? Was he a chaplain who accompanied the band and organised their daily prayer meetings or something? I take it from what you say that this "Ringo" character was the main mover and shaker in the band then. Was it him who first discovered Paul had some talent, or did that not happen till the late 70s?

guilty as charged. I am notorius for knowing way too much about completely insignificant bands. its my M.O. but yeah, I do believe Ringo was quite the driving force of the Beatles, with George, and the John and Paul really just there watching most of the time. Paul was an extremely late bloomer. as can be heard in the evolution of his music.
-
I seem to recall that these 'Beatles' were labled by the media--John was "the quiet Beatle," Ringo was "the intellectual Beatle," George was "the cute Beatle," and Paul was "the funny Beatle."

His best material came out much later it seems, for me "Pipes Of Peace" is an album that can never be surpassed, thank god he managed to make a successful comeback from the absolutely god awful "Tug Of War" album! Ebony and Ivory was the only good song on it! Also I get he was in a band with this "John Lennon" guy at one point but was he really interesting enough for Paul to write a tribute song about? (Here Today) Seriously what made him so special?

Please ...i can't stop laughing... you are so funny, I'm not so creative for make one contribution but I give all of you one 10. love it!!!

I think if he started playing something other than just one instrument, it might help initiate some creative discoveries on his part. He could learn a thing or two from today's increditably talented multi instrumentalists, such as Justin Beiber
-
Even though the beetle tracks I've managed to find so far are pretty lame, I'm actually vaguely intrigued to hear some more, and listen to some of Paul's first attempts back in the late 1960s, even if they are a bit rubbish. It'd be good to hear something different from him anyway: to look in some newspapers, you'd think the only records Paul ever made were "Dance till we're high" and "House of Wax"...

Here's what I don't understand about The Cockroaches (that was the name of the group, right? I can't find anything about this group on the internet, so I'm not sure if the name is right). Anyway, you have four relatively untalented guys who made the huge mistake of throwing out the most talented member: Pete Best. I mean, who would have heard of John, George, Ringo, and Paul if they hadn't been in Pete Best's first band? These guys are footnotes in musical history compared to what Pete's been able to accomplish since The Cockroaches faded into obscurity. If it weren't for the few songs Paul has written that were picked up by radio and you can still hear at parties ("Bip Bop" being the most well known), Paul would be a one-hit wonder.
