Generally, McCartney's lyrics have always been a bit wonky, his lyrics are not his strength. So, it doesn't bother me. But yeah, giving someone your alligator, ok!
Is alligator code for... oh, never mind!
This is just my take, but I think the 'alligator' is abstract symbolism for Paul's dark feelings, or his anger/sadness/bitchiness/any bs he may need to get off his chest. It's very cool, and everyone has these things in them and we all need someone to be there for us when we need to talk stuff out. Jon, I'm with you on the simplicity of the lyrics you quoted, but in context they actually work just fine. I think you'd agree.
I think you're right kapoo, but when I first heard it I thought he was talking about his "body gun" er I mean "polygon!"
\ Hell yeahs
I know what you mean too, paul has been know to reference the body gun

I am going to just say this for the record that am very disappointed that the song Scared isn't going to be on the special edition version of the CD. that really sucks big time. i really was looking forward to hearing that song. nevertheless it doesn't deter me from buying the CD. Scared should of been included it the special edition CD just saying.
Thats ridiculous! Its not a hidden track on the Special Edition?? why wouldn't it be?
sorry maybe its on the standard CD as the hidden track. no need to bite my head off it was just a misunderstanding on my end. i was about to say maybe i miscalculated. i should check into things before i say anything around here. geez

Oh no, thats just me, I meant it would be a ridiculous rip off if it wasn't included in the Special Edition! not biting your head off at all, I like your head!
misunderstanding cleared up I hope?

What? What's this "special edition" she speaks of? It is on all of the versions of the CD.

I think it's his side that bites
that's what i think too. and i will leave it as that as this thread is pg 13
Yes, and we can't discuss the difference between a body gun and a polygon on here either (or the different types of sweet bananas)

I just hope Paul didn't steal any of MY song lyrics (that's probably the most silly and most obnoxious thing I've ever written here, LOL)

I think the lyrics are very accessible and the simplistic few, as mentioned, are a nice break from the more complicated verses. In Alligator Paul is describing his difficulties and how he wants an understanding and congenial partner, then in the bridge he simplifies it with the lines; Could you be that person for me...would you dare to find my key? This strikes me as a creative device bringing contrast to the emotional pitch! I am not an English teacher, but I read a lot and see this technique used in prose and poetry and lyrics. The only line that strikes me as a bit obscure is from New and is the hook line, , "don't look at me". I can't work out what that means in the narrative of the song and it bothers me a little. But generally I enjoy Paul's writing on NEW!

Haven't you ever had someone say "Don't look at me!" to you? It means "I don't know!" or "I don't want to do that!"
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/don%27t_look_at_me So Paul is saying he doesn't know how all this is happening ("What's gonna be")

^that's how I always thought of it, too. What struck me is how well New (the song) fits in the flow of the album. I liked the song from the moment it was released as a single, but often singles like that stick out like a sore thumb once the album is released, but I think New fits in perfectly.

hehe, maybe we should start a McCartney lyrics appreciation thread instead? Then we could find examples of the best lyrics in his career.
