Breakin... hearts you were rulin.. little Coquette

I'm in a real classic rock standards phase.. covers, and appreciating the great renditions John and Paul have done throughout their careers. the list goes on and on really.. but Paul's Coquette is on par for me with the best either have ever done. Just in terms of feel, timing, savvy. I love this track. anyone else diggin it too?
so good it nearly makes me cry. and I have no idea why!? its like it causes vibrations within my musical heart. yes yes, I'm a lover of Paul's Coquette in a big way. You're a pimp Paul. you should do that one live. you're fans (ME) would love you for it. such a great song choice on the RDR album. reminds me of Lennon. speaks to me in the same ways. Rad. -
I love the way he sings Coquette on RDR. Also Movie Magg and No Other Baby.
-
It's not among my favorites, but Paul sounds damn-near just like Fats Domino on that record.
-
I love this song. His voice does sound like Fats Domino.
I think Coquette could have been written in a futuristic time travel way about Paul, since he has broken so many hearts in his life...not now of course.

Yes. Coqutte, Not other Baby and Lonesometown are some of the best track of RDR. In the other album of Rock and Roll, Back to USSR, I love his version for Summertime and Kansas City.

I like it but it's not my favorite on RDR. In an interview at the time, Paul said that it was basically "just me doing Fats." Fun, for sure, but I like the songs where Paul's take is more original and interesting -- e.g. Lonesome Town, All Shook Up, Honey Hush, No Other Baby.

Easily my favorite track on a relatively week album, imo!

Weak album? Are you serious? Run Devil Run is fantastic; one of best "covers" albums ever made. Critics loved it. One of the gems in Paul's vast catalog.

I wouldn't call it a weak album either, but I am with Wix that its my fav track on it! I'm thinking I need to buy some Fats Domino records in the near future. RDR may have been Paul's last truely spectacular vocal album. He could still do whatever he wanted on that one. By Chaos he was hamstrung. and today he's remaking jazz numbers
kidding Paul I love ya.

I have tracked one down!! and by one I mean the only official release Fats Domino ever made of his tune Coquette, which was the B-Side to his 1958 45' of Whole Lotta Lovin. Its not on any other album!!
Since I made this thread I have since purchase (reluctantly since Coquette wasn't on it!) his greatest hits album 'Walking to New Orleans', which has proven to be a great decision on my part
Fats Domino is awesome! and such HUGE props to Paul for choosing such a fantastic Fats song to do on his album. my respect for his song choice there grows by the day. Cannot wait to own the 45! tomorrow by noon it will be mine
Cheers Fat Man, you truly are a living legend.

RDR is a great album, and most of the song choices were truly inspired. Even though it's mostly covers, I'd easily rate it in the top 20% of Paul's post-Beatle output.

What i love about the RDR album is the raw energy and feel of it as a whole, it's by far the edgiest record Paul has made. I remember one critic saying the album was spoiling for a fight and i can see that, it's not sweet Paul, it's get the f**k outta my way Paul overall.
I'd love Paul to make a record with a similar feel, but all original songs instead.Maybe time to bring Chris Thomas in again to produce, he does seem to get a rawer sound out of Paul's records. My fav song on RDR is probably She Said Yeah, he just kills it, his voice is just raw and attacking. SHE SAID YEAH

Another one of those projects where I was not expecting Paul to sing as well as he did. Totally blew me away.

Maybe Paul said that about him 'just doing Fats', but after about 20 spins of the new 45 I just bought of the original 45 of Fats Domino's 'Whole Lotta Loving/Coquette', I think Paul really brought a lot of originality and feeling and Beatle-esque edge to his performance of the song. He took a very sweet and well written little song and rocked it. I am loving the Fats version, it is so smoothe and savvy, a very enjoyable listen what with his smoothe vocal delivery and the female backing singers, its really a great record if you like that kind of thing, see the link I posted to it above. But Paul's is much more modern, if you will. and its got that Paul 'taking it to another level' cover style he has mastered over time. and that the Beatles had invented during their time as a group. Paul's totally got that ability. Both outstanding versions, definitely my fav on the album. I'll be playing that Fats single for weeks! I love it, did I say that yet?
Overall, I'm really enjoying RDR more than I ever have. I do now think its a better covers record that Choba, I used to prefer Choba actually. And I still love it, but Paul really means it on RDR. very inspired, and some tremendous vocals. Now I need to get RDR on vinyl...

If anyone has Spotify I've made a playlist featuring all the originals from Run Devil Run, it's a good listen! http://open.spotify.com/user/1116159978/playlist/1ToN32fInyxuhXmAaKbNLL

Paul is the best singing that songs, I call them "old time rock and roll", like Long Tall Sally, etc. The best ever, not Elvis or Freddie or Little Richard, Paul's the best in the fast rockers. Like this, Paul, Long tall Sally live 1986, or Kansas City in 1997

Nice clips 21st! I especially like that Long Tall Sally from 86, what a performance. Paul's like a damn juke box of the classics, he can do them all so well. Still though, for me, give me Coquette. Granted its a studio production but man, what a track
I love Paul version of Blue Moon of Kentucky from Unplugged. they nailed that one. and I love his Dont Get Around Much Anymore from Choba.
