don't you think the deluxe edition should also include the mono mixes of "another day" and "oh woman oh why"?? the record store day 45 should have been the mono mixes!

The thing to keep in mind is that Q Magazine also gave only 2 stars to the McCartney reissue a year ago. The magazine seems really down on "indie" music lately and both McCartney and Ram are considered to be "proto-indie" albums. In last month's issue, for example, one of Q's main critics, a bore by the name of Dorian Lynsky, went on a rant about how "indie music has ruined Britain." When I read that, I must admit I immediately thought, I bet the magazine is going to low-ball Ram. And sure enough. By contrast Q gave McCartney II 4 stars. And I agree with those 4 stars. I just don't understand why a magazine like Q can appreciate an album like Brian Wilson's Smile, and go on and on about how it's "genius," and yet dismiss a masterpiece like Ram, which is in a similar style and musical inventiveness as Smile. There's always a double standard for Paul. Perhaps if he'd had a convenient mental illness (like Brian Wilson) the music rags would be more sympathetic to Paul. They seem to love sob stories, and feeling sorry for an artist. : Fair warning: I'm going to be ranting pretty much very time some dumb critic attacks Ram.

I just wet myself a little bit. That is getting pre-ordered all day long.

That gave me a good giggle. But I understand the sentiment! Like a nut, I've spent a bit of time studying that picture. This whole thing is just beautifully designed. And now all we have to do is wait a month for it to arrive before we can start complaining about what it doesn't include. I can't wait to look over those lyrics sheets. WANT! NOW!

WOW! This one impressive looking package, much better than I supposed. Look at the envelope included that must hold the photos, looks like something he would give you if you visited him or something. Very enticing indeed.

Percy is pleased that so many of you are looking forward to the release of Ram but somewhat mystified that no one has yet mentioned the inclusion of the Thrillington remastered Ram album. Many missed purchasing this now very rare album in the 1970s. For those of you buying the Ram Deluxe version that will include the Thrillington work, please warm up your ears. Now, enough warming up my body, back to the ski slopes!

Glad you could join us, Percy 12. And yes, I'm looking forward to hearing the full remastered Thrillington. I've only heard brief bits and pieces of Thrillington anyway. I've been saving myself for the reissue.

I'm looking forward to finally hearing all of Thrillington. but I am afraid to get excited because I was fearful it would be download only or some BS. Maybe I shouldn't give MPL any stupid ideas.

Did Jon Landau write the review for the Ram reissue?? "...Ram represents the nadir in the decomposition of 21st century reissue rock thus far...."

We could change the words of The Pound is Sinking to "The Ram price is Sinking" and sing and cheer it down hopefully yet again before the release date.

very very dissapointed with this. never mind 'other' artists just compare this to some of the pathetically positive reviews of the karoke standards album mccartney himself put out a couple of months ago.... one is an album full a majestic magic sung by a sublime voice and harmonies that defined an era. the other is a bunch of boring tedious sluggish pisswater sung by a voice on its last legs....

I don't think it's fair to compare Ram and KOTB, although I think the first is excellent and the latter is quite good. I'll take the review out recently from Jazz Times on the quality of KOTB and Paul's voice:

McCartney fans will likely be perplexed by Sir Paul?s ninth-inning foray into the Great American Songbook. But aficionados of deftly crafted vocal jazz will appreciate this as an exemplary exercise in reinvention. McCartney successfully strips away the pop-star patina, embracing a quiet elegance that mirrors the interpretive brilliance of Fred Astaire. Yes, the voice has frayed (McCartney is nearing 70), but its well-traveled raggedness is integral to its effectiveness, echoing the tender vulnerability that so gorgeously defined Maxine Sullivan?s career-twilight renaissance in the mid-?80s.

That said, I'm still stewing over that lousy Ram review from that f?*!@n# Q Magazine. A more apt comparison, I think, is between Ram and the Beach Boys' Smile reissue. Not long ago, Q raved about the Smile album but then it turns around and slights Ram -- when the two records are similar in both offering inventive arrangements and vocals. There's a huge double standard in Q's reviews of both albums that is just plain unfair (to Paul, of course).
