I really like Paul's New album , but it looks like Joe public couldn't care less he's just released a really good new album . I've felt it for years that it's his Wings material that needs to be put centre stage , lets have a decent Wings Greatest Hits album released . I don't understand why Paul doesn't get behind his Wings past in a big way , they were one of the biggest bands of the 70's and should be given the credit they deserve . I just wish Paul would focus more on his Wings legacy , yes we are getting Venus and Mars and Wings At The Speed Of Sound in the New Year but they are likely to be followed by Tug Of War and Pipes Of Peace . It's madness not to really get behind your most successful period of music . Sorry I'm rabbling a bit but I don't like the decline in Paul's popularity especially here in the UK just over 15.ooo first week sales for New indicates to me he needs to change is game plan I demand a Wings revival and I want Wings to save us

Frank, the only way you would get that is if you someday meet Paul in heaven and God grants you one wish!

There have been 3 Wings greatest hits collections, though the last 2 contained a handful of solo songs, and Wingspan got a TV special. I can't imagine anything more irrelevant than another Wings compilation. And he does a fair amount of Wings stuff in his shows, though he relies way too much on a limited number of tunes. It's his solo career that Paul really neglects.

I want to write more about my New impressions on another thread once I get around to it, but here's the thing, everyone pulling out #1s is young. Paul is old. That's all there is to it. New is a great album, quality songs and not a single "filler" IMO. He advertised it heavily, it's put out front at Barnes and Noble, Starbucks, and whomever is left that still sells CDs. I'm one of those fans that can find little fault with Paul, except when he doesn't sing (classical, ballet, first two Fireman CDS, etc). New should have broad, mainstream appeal. Great writing, production, and a modern sound. It is the best of Paul's Fireman stuff combined with his pop writing. And it just aint going to blow anyone away---because he's old. He's a novelty from the past that everyone loves because of his past--but that's it, except for his fans and a few who stumble on him. I can't tell you how many people I've encountered who love Beatle Paul but are absolutely dismissive of his 43 year solo career, which makes no sense to me at all. It's sheer ignorance and an unwillingness by radio stations to really promote his stuff, I think. Sorry to keep going on, but we went through this with Chaos and Creation--a superb album that should have propelled him to the top. Memory also had real potential, but was a flash in the Billboard pan as well. It's sad, we all know that he's still "got it," but everyone else has moved on. I just hope Paul keeps recording for those of us who love his music, even if he doesn't see another massive hit. And I don't think tying any of his new work in with a Beatles/Wings promotional will change the fact that the CD/iTunes buying public, just isn't buying Paul.

Gotta agree with Bruce. Wingspan was the ultimate tribute to Wings. The Wings Over America - long, long awaited (and I've been only hanging out for the complete Let it Be movie/CD more) - was the other perfect tribute to his post-Beatles band.... That being said, perhaps those specials should have had involvement from the other band members. That would've been very interesting, and I think Denny L deserved some kind of say and closure.... but at the end of the day, Wings is Paul.

ps. Being a day off tomorrow, I am watching The McCartney Years.... which is a great homage to his solo years, so I think he has been good on that front too. This is an excellent collection. Listening to the his Commentary of the Spies Like Us video, on he, Chevy and Dan crossing Abbey Road at the end: (suggestively): Why did he wear no shoes?" Brilliant.
