Like many of you, I love Macca. For me, it has always been about the music. And for me, we're talking 1964 till now. With the new album, it has been an an especially exciting month and better yet, I love so many of the songs on NEW. It is an album that Paul should be really proud of. Because I am such a fan and Macca has given me such enjoyment over the years, I want to see him do well on the charts and I want others to know how good this CD is. Also, because I am a people person, I naturally talk with people all the time. Acquaintances I regularly see at the convenience store or coffee shop or just strangers I just happen to meet. The question is: how do you talk with people about our guy Paul McCartney and his new album. It's one thing if you're speaking with a relative, but it's ackward to just bring Macca up out of thin air to people you don't really know. I certainly don't want to hit people over the head with NEW. At best, I would bring it up in a very subtle way. Because it is Fall around my area (Philadelphia) I have found that you need a jacket especially in the morning. For whatever reason and since I am now retired, I recently pulled out a nice Black Beatles jacket my sister gave me. I never wore it when I was working. The jacket has the photograph of all 4 Beatles in the back (the same photos that were on the inside jacket of the Beatles White Album). I never thought it would be a conversation piece but it has. People invariably would hit me with "nice jacket". I did learn a couple of things. I've yet to meet someone who has bought NEW but worse yet, most didn't seem to know that Paul has a new CD. I would then let the person know how great it is and how remarkable it is for someone who is 71. Don't know if I created any actual sales for Paul but I thought it was a good conversation piece since they complemented my jacket. You gotta think that maybe as the Beatles 50th year Anniversary is not far off, that some of those people will tell someone else that they heard that Paul's new CD is very good. I really believe that this album will give practically any listener enjoyment so I don't feel bad in any way pushing Macca as long as it can be very subtle. Just curious how other talk about NEW to their friends, relatives etc. thanks

I've been full-on proselytizing for Macca at numerous social circles for years -- mainly to dispel incorrect assessments of his post-Beatles/current work.

Ive been telling people about new in the simplest way: talking about it. a lot. at the moment, its got a couple intrested, dunno if they have brought it or not but its created one troll... one really annoying one... but that's not going to stop me. next level will be playing it out loud more often. should work magic actually showing it to people than trying to explain it to people. its quite hard telling a younger audience " hey Sir Paul McCartney has put out a good album for a 71 year old!", its a little hard to get a reply of " AWESOME! Im so gonna buy it now!", its more like the " Man hes old hes nowhere near as cool as (insert generic pop artist )" . Verry hard to advertise... Especially because of the factor that if you ask most Aus kids, they wont have a clue who Paul McCartney is. Sigh...

Several Facebook posts, and my "cover photo" was the "New" cover for several weeks.

As I had mentioned on another thread, I posted the link of the "Queenie Eye" video on my FB page. I asked people to see how many famous people they could identify. I think I received around 50 "likes" and close to 30 comments. A bunch of my FB friends had no idea McCartney had new CD and I believe at least 5-10 said they would buy it now or put it on the Christmas list for Santa.

              Maybe I'm amazed !!

If I give someone a ride, I've been playing something from the album. Depending on the amount of time, I always start with "Appreciate" and move on to something else like "Alligator." I've always gotten a positive response, and at least one person said she was going to download "Appreciate" on iTunes. parlance

Reminds me of being exhorted to go out and spread the word about Jesus, to advance his ministry on earth and tell the good news. Can't tell you how often I've heard things along those lines, and how tired I became of hearing that. Though I guess I shouldn't be. Telling about "New" about great music, being implored about this, well that's something "new" a novelty, was glad to read your supplications Wearing your Beatles jacket makes a good talking point to begin I don't have one.

I was at Billy Joel's London show last Tuesday and was talking to a guy who'd been to Paul's last three London shows, but interestingly and commonly he told me he'd not bought a Paul album since Wings Over America back in '76. I did tell him to go out and get NEW as it's one of Paul's best albums since the FABS, but i'm not sure he was convinced It's such a shame this attitude is so common amongst Paul's so called "fans".

I hope he took your praises for New to heart. His loss, if otherwise. I can't tell you how many McCartney CDs (with detailed track-descriptions) that I've made for co-workers and friends since CD-burning was available. Even if those CDs don't necessarily compel them to buy Paul's future albums, it certainly -- at the very least -- serves the purpose of letting them know that Paul McCartney continues to make outstanding, relevant music.

One reason for Billy Joel's reported "greatness" is his emulation of Paul's singing style and to an extent Paul's songwriting styles

I've been telling a lot of people since the single came out. I've been sharing the "New" and "Queenie Eye" videos on Facebook...a lot, along with news of "New" as it was approaching the release date. I had my band learn "New" back in September. I'd announce that it was a new "Paul McCartney" song that has a Beatles twist to it (we paired the song with "Got To Get You Into My Life"). People got up to dance like they knew it! I also turned the guys in my band on to "Queenie Eye", "Everybody Out There", and "Early Days". A lot of people ask me about the "New" light cube I keep on my desk (from FYE promo). Great conversation piece. Gave my mom a copy of the disc. She's an old school Beatles fan who had thought Paul passed his peak back in the '90s. I took her to a Paul concert, and then gave her the "new" cd and she loved both! Also, she has now changed her opinion of solo Paul. "Queenie Eye" has been the biggest one, overall. I have turned quite a few family and friends onto it just by singing the chorus, and then responding to their inquisitive looks by explaining the backstory of the game and where Paul got it. Best part is I've now caught them singing the song on their own. (and the music video helped, too!). Then when it came to Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel late night shows, lots of people told me they had watched it and enjoyed it. Usually the feedback was "wow he looks good" and "how does he not run out of music?"

"And your inspiration long may it last..."

Billy is closer to Paul than to Elton as he's a self contained songwriter, but Billy's more a singer songwriter with pop sensibilities than Paul. I think Billy is more lyrical than Paul, but though diverse musically he's nowhere as eclectic as Paul. Billy certainly takes a lot more care with his lyrics than Paul has ever done.

I just had the chance to plug Paul's album to a stranger when I was driving down Melrose and discovered that a wall that often gets used to advertise albums was covered in a painting of the album cover. (I uploaded a pic to my instagram account at http://www.instagram.com/parlance2 ). As I stopped to take the photo, someone parking his motorcycle asked me if the album was new, if it was good and if it was like his old stuff. And then he said he'd check it out because he lkes him. 😄 parlance
