"Liam Lynch's story of studying at Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and having private lessons with Paul is both hilarious and touching."

Lovely!

Just watched the whole show and it was wonderful. My daughter gets Graham's show and DVRd it for me to watch when I go to visit her in Atlanta for the holidays. Loved it! Paul is funny with his stories and Graham is a real character who brings out the best in everyone. Great guests along with Paul, too.

What a neat interview, I love how he asked Paul, since he could play the drums, if he wanted to be Ringo in his faux Beatle band Anyway thanks for sharing the link.

There weren't really any steadfast lessons. Liam was in the first graduating class at LIPA and said it was a one on one session with Paul, who told him that you can't really teach how to write a song. He said Paul said he didn't know which of his songs would become a big hit and some of his best songs nobody cared about. Liam said it wasn't so much about how to write a song he learned but more about the experience meeting and working closely with Paul. Liam said Paul was a complicated guy, and it's like being near a power station being near him because he has such intense energy. He said he felt like Paul had a calloused sort of bubble around him for self-preservation because "he?s had so many people trying to take energy out of him and away from him that he's got a calloused aura." Liam said at the time Paul was giving the lessons Linda was dying of cancer so he was in a very complicated, emotional place. One day Liam came in for their lesson and Paul was staring out the window looking at the rain, so Liam went and stood next to him and they just watched the rain. He said as far as he knew, Paul had just come from the hospital where his wife was battling breast cancer and here he was, in the same school as when his mother died of breast cancer, so Liam thought Paul was in a weird sort of emotional timewarp.
