What Paul-led supergroups would you like to see?
-
So it popped into my head earlier today that it would be awesome if Paul were to start a side project band with some other famous musicians aka Traveling Wilburys. Anyway this is the band I would like to see.
(Don't take this two seriously it's just a bit of fun) Paul McCartney: Vocals and bass guitar Prince: Lead Guitar Elvis Costello: Rhythm Guitar Dave Grohl: Drums Prince might be a hard person to keep in check admittedly!
There's A LOT of ego in this band so they would all have to have a few lead vocals each to keep them happy! Er, anyway what do you think? and what musicians would you like to see team up with Paul?

Paul McCartney, Noel Gallagher, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Zak Starkey

How about Jeff Lynne? He is so freakin' talented! (just watched his special on VH1 Classics where they interview Paul & Ringo, among others)
-
Paul McCartney - bass Billy Corgan - guitar Beck Hanson - 2nd guitar Dave Grohl - drums Great thing is they are all multi- instrumentalists and outstanding writers. Would be the coolest band on earth. I think Billy Corgan is one of the unsung genius' still around.
-
Paul - Bass, Vocals Neil Finn - Keyboard Jeff Lynne - Lead Guitar Max Weinberg - Drums Elvis Costello - Rhythm Guitar And they all wrote the songs together like the Wilbury's

Rockestra

How about this one: Paul McCartney: Vocals, Bass Charlie Watts: Drums Pete Townsend: Guitar Jools Holland: Keyboard

Here's 3 different super combo's Paul Eric Clapton Jeff Lynne Barry Gibb Ringo I know with Ringo in there people will call it a quasi Beatles reunion but so be it. It is a supergroup and Ringo is a super drummer. or alternately Paul Mark Knopfler Pete Townsend Elton John Phil Collins and another group I fantasized about when I was much younger. I thought it would be a brilliant combination - Paul Agnetha Faltskog Anni-Frid Lyngstad Bjorn Ulvaeus Benny Andersson Yes that's right Paul joins ABBA and call it PABBA.

Paul McCartney Bass Vocals Neil Finn Guitar Harmony Vocals Noel Gallagher Guitar Harmony Vocals Jools Holland Piano Dave Grohl Drums

Great line-up. However, Dave Grohl should share in the vocal duties.

I like your first two lineups.

None. "Supergroups" are over-rated. You can't force a band dynamic. It has to happen organically. Look at that disastrous supergroup created by Mick Jagger. Absolute joke. They released an album -- called, embarrassingly, "SuperHeavy" I think, or maybe that was the group's name -- to near universal disdain. And then dropped off the radar completely. Paul has had 2 excellent groups. But his best solo work was done alone (or nearly alone). McCartney. Ram. McCartney II. Fireman. Chaos and Creation. If he brings in studio musicians for his next album that would be fine, too. But no supergroups. Yuk.

This would make a good Aussie market single Bang-A-Boomerang b/w Ode to a Koala Bear Here's some more Paul/ABBA collaborations: Pretty Little Head Over Heels I'll Give You A Ring Ring Ballroom Dancing Queen Our Last Summer's Day Song Ram On And On And On Beware My Love, My Life What are some other Paul/ ABBA tracks people can come up with ?

hehehehe.... I think a really good supergroup for Paul would be with: 1. Jeff Lynne, of course (still love Flaming Pie-in fact, still think the Jeff produced tracks are some of Paul's best. Listening to Long Wave and Kisses on the Bottom show that both men have been finding some inspiration in the past before they became fab. 2. Neil Finn of Crowded House. Neil Finn manages to cast his own New Zealand spin on the Beatlesque without sounding derivative like Oasis, which to me is like REO Speedwagon on a speeded up Revolver album; on the other hand, many of Neil's songs are haunting, cosmic and lyrical. However, Neil suffers from staying in the same tempo often and a little lilt and belt from Paul could benefit both. 3. Roland Orzabal (hope I spelled it write) of Tears for Fears. another great songwriter who has delved into his angst with soulful pop, with a just enough fab trippiness. His last album "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending" makes him a suitable candidate for the group. I hate to sound obvious but a collobaration with Julian Lennon on one track would be a dream. Julian's voice has only gotten better over the years specially with his last overlooked album. Julian sang once on a footstool alongside Tears, "Stand by Me" so it would be wonderful to reprise that track with the supergroup switching out lines.
