Paul and Neil Young

Could a collaboration work? This idea struck me whilst I was listening to Paul's manic guitar solos on "House of Wax" which are very Neil Young
I remember their live duet on Neil's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" and when Paul came on during Neil's performance of "A Day In A Life" I think they could work some magic live, but not sure if their styles would compliment a collaboration of their own? Anyone differ?

Interesting thought. I guess anything can happen. Neil is on tour with Crazy Horse right now. I would LOVE to see that concert.
I have not seen Neil play but once and it was 6 years ago, at the Freedome of Speech Tour with CSN&Y. Hope ur wish comes true presstoplay85.

It would have been a great pairing in the early 70s. Now?...not so much.

Speaking of Neil Young and Paul, I was just in a bookstore flipping through Neil Young's new memoir and he mentions Paul (just in a longish paragraph). It's interesting for several reasons: (1) In this particular section of the book (it's chapter 3), Neil is talking about how he can't always be doing music, that he needs a break from it to keep himself vital. He needs to do other things. And then he writes, "My friend Paul feels the same way." (It's funny that Neil never gives Paul's last name, but just mentions "Paul" and "Linda.") Anyway, Neil says that he and Paul have talked about how they have to do other things to get away from music. (2) Neil mentions that he and Paul met because they both loved Linda who he called a "wonderful girl and lady." Awww.
Neil goes on to say that he and Paul keep in touch periodically to talk about "music and whatever. I like Paul a lot." Awww.
(3) I found this passage particularly interesting and I'm reciting it from memory because I haven't decided whether to buy the book: "Paul reminds me a bit of a modern-day Charlie Chaplin, both in terms of the way he moves and the attention he pays to his art." I think that's a great comparison -- one that certainly had never occurred to me before. Food for thought. P.S. I can't see Neil and Paul ever collaborating on an album. Just like I can't see Neil and Bruce Springsteen collaborating on an album or Neil and Bob Dylan. They each do what they do on their own.

I think James should collaborate with Neil. It would work .

I like Neil Young's music, but the dude is perpetually cranky. Not a good dynamic for collaborating.
-
How about Paul and Paul Simon? Or maybe not, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan once collaborated and it doesn't worked out so well.

Paul's 1970-1972 period is very Neil Youngish. I think they respect each other so much because they both are very versatile & put out stuff regardless of what the critics would think. What Neil put out in the 1980s took a lot of guts, especially after is his prior work.

Good observation IMO auds, I feel the same way about Neil, always seems cranky! what is it with that guy!? However, I may be in the minority but I think a colaboration between those two could work out fantastic! I'd like to hear them go for some punishing rock originals together. something about their mix I think could work. could be very Beatle-ish. Paul doesn't need Neil though to do what I'm envisioning. but I do think it could work. they should at least do a song for fun. Cool that they are good friends. guys like them should be. I need to listen to more Neil Young. he's one I've majorly neglected. I own one CSN&Y record, thats it! talk about neglect of a great artists catalogue.. I'm sort of ashamed of myself right now
