Paul's Band mates forming their own bands-WHY?

don't get mad...
I personally think some of my opening questions might have some validity... possibilities? bored same set list no creative freedom tired no input and

It has nothing to do with loyalty to Paul. It has everything with them being musicians with decades long careers and great talent and the need to express themselves. it is not subtracting from Paul, it is adding to Rusty and Brian as individuals. I don't think it's a weakness, or see the need to ask why. That's what musicians DO. Personally if Paul hooked up with Grohl that would be the end of my interest and the beginning of me barfing. I find Grohl odious on many levels.
David Grohl is an excellent musician Jena.. & plays his heart out... I personally never have seen a group.. that I can recall in recent memory who's members are forming sub groups of their own .. unless they were unhappy or about to beak up~ if Paul doesn't mind why not give them free rein...
You're seeing free rein. Just because you haven't seen it before so what? The people you are discussing are strongly original and maybe you need a paradigm shift
also btw let me tell you Grohl is NOT an excellent musician. He gets up there and thrashes around but musically he isn't even on an intermediate level.
YES he is~
obviously yuo haven't heard his music...
a mega-talent..... both on the drums & guitar...
-
You know what , he is a great rock drummer. I prefer someone with more economy of motion but he gets the job done, I will give you that!
But on guit honey no he is nowhere, bar chords do NOT cut it. Paul is very generous with him because he knows Grohl is a big fan but Grohl is nowhere compared to Rusty OR Brian on guitar. nooo
anti Grohl rant done for now
but the other issues you raise truly I don't see a problem. I don't see the problem.
-
I need no shift, I have bought all their music... Brian's & Rusty's
if they interview some where's they/the band are not bored w/touring, with Paul,... than I might believe it!
-
You should ask them yourself, they're very responsive people

Okay, I hate to put it this way but...THEY ARE NOT A BAND. Paul writes all the material and records nearly everything on his albums since these guys came into existence. They are live session men for him. He hired them. Watch the "Back in the US" dvd...

Paul said last year .. or maybe the year before he considers them a band - I'll try & find where he said that ... they have played on some of his albums since formed/united~ lyric writing no solo's no input? maybe in setlist requests from fans....
-
Well yes, he calls them a band...and I'm sure it feels fine for all of them considering what they must be paid. But, there is still the creative need in each of them to do their own thing...doesn't mean they're quitting Paul... They've definitely made an impact on the setlist. From what I am aware of...Getting Better, Day Tripper, Junior's Farm, 1985...are some of what they've suggested and gotten in the set.

Brian just gave an interview today or yesterday where he explains things fairly well. Basically his first loyalty is to tour with Paul, but there are months that go by when they are not working with him and he has formed a band in the interim. He explains that working for Paul makes it difficult to tour with the band, but he also says he gets caught up in Paul's enthusiasm, which gets him excited. In truth they are clearly session/band members. They are basically not involved in the creative process but are involved with the show process. I think Paul's efforts to 'create' a band in the past was not in his best interests. Wings was more successful then the Off the Ground crew, but the truth is the majority of fans are interested in Paul and I think this band understands that, but have taken as much advantage to promote their own material as they can because of their association. How many of us heard of any of these people prior to their association with Paul? Yet they were out there all along for years. And they aren't that young anymore. 3 of them are in their mid to late 50's. I think forming bands at that age isn't going to threaten their loyalty to Paul.
-
I think involving the members would make a incredible album.. if asked, and wonder why Paul has not involved them?~ I think most of us here on the board look forward to see the other band mates as well.. but some people say 'I'm not here for the band but Paul'... flipped coin~
-
I think because it hasn't really worked in the past. He doesn't need to have a 'group' anymore. He needs what he has which is a reliable working band that works well with him and all get along. To be a band it would mean they'd all have to give up their side projects and all work together. I suspect that none of them want that. Paul has used them variously at different points for different things, like Abe on the Kisses live sessions. I think this arrangement suits them all very well. They all have families, live in different places and have lives independent of 'the band'. And they get to do what they want in their off times. Perfect arrangement.

some valid points.... when they first started out w/Paul they seemed so excited -especially Brian...I just wonder if they have become somewhat bored... because of the above mentioned in the initial post~ I thought it was great to see Abe on the Kisses Sessions.. he looked all too happy to be there... infused w/some humor... at SNL when I saw the band standing against the wall when Paul was playing w/Nirvana it was kinda odd as they sat out as spectaters and not performers & I wondered if they had any slight resentment.. wonder if they thought Paul really rocked it out w/them Abe was the only one who waved btw...

Brian Ray has his Bayonets. Rusty has Rusty Anderson Afternoon Abe plays with others Wix is the only one I haven't heard of playing with others recently, but he has the title of Musical Director I don't think it's a sign of anything other than these guys trying to make sure they can make a living if Paul should retire or only do a few gigs a year that include them. I call it covering their bases.

yeah, kinda like I asked in the initial post~
true they grabbed Paul's fans

I don't think they will ever leave Paul, and I don't think they have a problem with anything that goes on. They are working musicians. For the most part repitition plays a role in all music. I think all they want to do is play. Being bored is not a factor. That is why they have outlets for other projects. Even Paul does. It is part of the job. And they now have exposure that they never would have had. I'm pretty sure that Brian at 57 doesn't really think the Bayonets are going to be taking over the world, but I'm sure he appreciates the exposure and interest he gets in part by being in Paul's band. Same with the other guys. Wix doesn't really do side projects with bands though. He's been musical director on several occasions for large scale events and he works as a producer, a lot of the time in Paul's studio.

for Some reason I believe the Bayonets would have a huge following in SA too musical standards Brian is still fairly young.. than again, I don't think Paul is old by any means only chronologically
