Ringo's comment on the Paul/Bono performance at Live8

Mieke:
I loved the brass band in the Pepper suits. I don't understand why Ringo said it was stupid.
'cause it all reminded circus... It would have been fine, if it were some kind of Beatles retrospection - that way it would be fine for those guys to wear the suits. But it was not. And surely if Paul wore that suit he would look foolishly...

I've seen Ringo talk about he and Paul playing together and he says its a matter of logistics more than anything else. Certainly no acrimony exists. Alot of preparation goes into putting a show together and Paul still lives in England and Ringo lives in Monte Carlo.

Well, it did seem a missed opportunity to not have Ringo on. That said, I think the opening was a bit overrated. I don't blame Macca for not wanting to dress up in the Sgt Pepper outfit - he was feeling nervous anyway and he said wearing the suit would make him 'even more nervous' and also, let's face it, he has aged since then and it might look a bit silly. There are things you can get away with in your twenties... But Macca could have worn a military surplus jacket of the sort worn by the Arctic Monkeys spin-off band. That would have been cool. The band sounded like they were doing a soundcheck, and one of the U2 guitarists fluffed his riff. It looks odd to have one singer there without a guitar in that context, though we had it again when George Michael came on later. Macca made out that it was the first time he's played it since the days of The Beatles. Hmmm, he played it on the Tripping the Light Fantastic tour! That was 1989.

I feel sorry for Ringo - you could tell he wanted to play drums. And as for the suits, I agree Paul would look daft at 67. I think they don't understand what they could create if they worked together. It's really sad..
