      Nancy R:

Here is something interesting I came across in the "Ultimate Music Guide: Paul McCartney" issue put out last year by Uncut magazine from a 1987 interview they did: Would you ever have a go at something in a DefJam rap style? "No, it's too much of a separate entity, I'd get slagged off for even trying. That's why I've shied away from reggae. I don't want to be seen as comin' in on their act. It's like people who became Merseybeaters, like The Jam. There was one of their songs ["Start"] that was dangerously close to 'Taxman'. I don't mind that, it's quite flattering, but the rap stuff is a very particular style and I'd rather leave that to the people who know what they're doing."

What kind of a fan would criticise Paul for doing rap?!.... Really?! .... Oh, hang on, that would be me!... Paul got it right back then..... He may not have "added" all that much to the genre in very recent times but he did contribute to the atrocity.... How's that for irony?... Good pick up.... I might have to listen to that Defjam song to at least see if it sounds like Taxman.... and then I will listen to Taxman a few more times and put the other song into the bin.

Oops. The Jam, I think I meant.

Wow, I'd never heard that Jam song before but what a rip off. A different melody, but the riff.... I will defer to someone here.... not aware of any legal issues, but if an ode maybe okay, but it did more than borrow from Taxman.

LOL...here's an article with examples that list 13 songs that sound like other songs. Paul didn't make the list but George did. http://www.buzzfeed.com/expresident/13-songs-that-sound-a-little-bit-too-much-like-oth#.ub9ykQzbV

Good article, that I will need to have a good listen to! .... R.O.C.K IN THE U.S.A by Cougar/Mellencamp/Cougar-Mellencamp and What I Like About You by (I think) The Romantics still resonates with me back in the day.

George's response to the My Sweet Lord/He's So Fine thing was brilliant.

That's always been one of my favorite George songs -- love it when he lets his sense of humor show. Do I remember right that Eric Idle directed the video?

He sings a line in the song, but I don't know if he had anything to do with the video.
