When we talk in english about "flying pigs" we are talking about an impossibility - and to Pink Floyd fans the reunion was viewed as likely never to happen. Their re-union at Live8 therefore triggered comments about flying pigs. Pink Floyd also famously had a helium inflatable pig that they took to fly over the audience at concerts for their song "Pigs On The Wing". In common speech if someone says something very unlikely one might reply - "I'll believe that when I see a flying pig" or even look up to watch for the pig flying overhead So in summary the reunion was a very rare treat indeed for fans who had given up all hope of seeing them together again - which is why you saw the sign. Martin

Here's the lyrics for the song Pigs On The Wing [Part 1] If you didn't care what happened to me And if I didn't care for you We would zig zag our way through the boredom and pain Occasionally glancing up through the rain Wondering which of the buggers to blame And watching for pigs on the wing [Part 2] You know that I care what happens to you And I know that you care for me So I don't feel alone Or the weight of the stone Now that I've found somewhere safe To bury my bone And any fool knows a dog needs a home A shelter from pigs on the wing

Dark Side of the Moon is so great. It was on the best seller list in the US for like 7 years straight or something. In the US we say something will happen 'when pigs fly'. BTW - There was a flying pig in the Simpsons episode with Paul and Linda, too.

With an apple in it's mouth...that was somehow sad to see, especially in context of that episode's topic.

Here we always have the flying pigs marathon evry year. We have flying pigs on these statues at the riverfront too. I think thats due to the meat industry in Cincinnati.
