Horror movies

Old school stuff...but a variety, such as 'The Birds' and/or Jaws...I like the first Sigourney Weaver 'Alien' movie (not crazy about the sequels)...not into films which lean heavily on gory special effects - although in saying that, I don't mind the gory stuff as long as it helps benefit the story line...just don't give me a film that's exclusively about body dismemberment simply because the writer didn't know how to write a good script and these 'scenes' were necessary to save it (at least in their estimation)

Thanks to whoever moved my post to merge with this one. Lots of good titles here that I've not seen before. I will see if I can pick any up and give them a whirl. Anyone remember the 'House' series of films in the 80's? They used to scare me but I think they are classed as comedy?
