vinyl is never going to overwhelm the trend to towards totally digital downloads but there is a niche following that artists are more than willing to support for the media. Why? Nostalgia perhaps? Because the media cannot be used as a soundtrack to daily living through car hi-fis, ipods and smartphone earphones - listening to vinyl forces the owner/listener to set aside a "listening moment" to hear it in a fixed location on a traditional home Hi-Fi system - along with other comfort measures such as a hot drink and snacks. Because they come in large packages with other material such as notes and photos in a designer sleeve that is a pleasure to own and display? Vinyl fans claim the sound quality is different - and indeed the way the sound is rendered in an analogue manner means it must be so - better? - that's a moot point - perhaps skewed by the factors above that come with the experience. There was a brief hiatus some years ago when the sudden reversal in favour almost ran into a road-block caused by the demise of both manufacturing plant and available vinyl material - releases on vinyl were put on hold while the industry decided whether it was worth reinvesting in the media or if the surge in interest was just a curious blip. It seems the demands of fans won the day as more and more product emerges on vinyl. Certainly Paul seems happy to oblige making releases available on vinyl. Perversely there are now USB turntables that instantly play vinyl through the PC and other related digital formats - allowing transfer back into digital form - which seems to defeat the whole ethos....

I have a lot of vinyl albums. Love the nostalgia of it. The album cover art and photos and posters inside etc. were cool! Here's... She's A Woman...on an original vinyl 45 rpm record. Sounds Great!

I've always said: "Vinyl Ain't Final". Even turntables are becoming very popular again. Not so easy to find much vinyl tho'.

And when one does find vinyl, the prices are sky high.

ok, so vinyl has been coming back ... but, will laser disks ever come hack (except for the old ones)?
-
Will current classic and contemporary music be defined by the vinyl era...the eight track era...the cassette era...the laser disk era...and the chip era etc. some day? just a thought
-
There is still a lot of vinyl chairs at thrift shops available I dont think it will ever go away. love doris

And vinyl can be found at yard sales & flea markets, but sometimes the condition is terrible.

I watched a news segment the other night where some artists are recording new material to vinyl. It constitutes about 2-4% of the market. The vinyl pressing factory was running 24/6 and pressing about 40,000 records a day!
