Happy New Year! I read this morning in the newspaper that Rosh Hashonah begins at sundown today. I also read the last time 5774 has occurred this early was in the year 1899, and the next time it will be this early will be 2089.

I do not believe that is correct. This is the first and last 5774.

Star Planet Sun Earth Date 5774/2013 I would think that other star planet systems would have calendars based around the lives of their profound messengers of law and love in the universe...as well

Sorry bout that. I was reading an article out of the newspaper when I wrote that post, as I am learning about Judaism all on my own. I meant Rosh Hashonah to be in the place of 5774 and vice versa. Thanks for the correction.

That is interesting Doris. Why do all Jewish holidays began and end at sundown? And since we are all coming to the end of the New Year's celebrations, I thank you all for letting me in to celebrate this holiday with you in Spirit. Can someone recommend a certain book or link that would be useful 4 me to study Judaism more efficiently?

Hi Doris, I have several times meant to stop by this thread, but found myself distracted elsewhere. Just before sundown here and therefore just in time to wish you a very Happy New Year! I hope this year brings good health, peace and contentment to you.

THANK YOU, (((((PAUL)))))!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!

Days begin and end at sunset because of an interpretation of Genesis 1:13 that the day begins in the evening. A few good books on Judaism: "The Essential Talmud" by Adin Steinsaltz "Women and Jewish Law" by Rachel Biale "To Pray as a Jew" by Rabbi Hayim Donin "Everyman's Talmud" by Abraham Cohen

Beings on other planets are advanced enough not to need calendars.
