The ..2012.... Political thread

Rich, out of curiosity, is it possible to admit that both the left and the right have tendencies to do these things? I hardly think it's only a liberal habit to blow things out of proportion...

All the hype on the tube does is convince me to stick to my guns I am voting for the current Democratic president . The Repblican candidates almost told the public to heck with us. They basically only care about an elitist few. love doris
This election is a lose/lose situation....
There certainly aren't many quality candidates in either party right now... I'm voting for Obama again, and probably would have to be honest, but it's discouraging to see the field and realize that these are the best and brightest the parties have to offer... ops:
I will say that Obama and the 4 candidates are certainly competing to see who can shoot their selves in the foot the most...in football, they have an expression (when it appears to be going down to the wire) that the last team with the ball will win...and it may very well turn out this way in terms of having a case of the 'stupids' when the 'game' ends

Was more or less my point by placing Bill Maher and Rush Limbaugh in the same boat...but the one difference is that I don't often see Republicans having a fit when Bill Maher calls Sara Palin 'the C word', etc...and after Gabby Giffords was shot, the left was quick to use the tragedy for political gain by attacking the right for the ads tactics they were using, when in fact, they too were participating in using the same exact type of visual (re: use of gun crosshairs/targets) ads to help defeat their opponents... Admittedly, this is a small sample pool - and the right is not completely innocent of these types of behaviors either...but in the past several years, there's been a devoloping track record. PS - I will add that while I certainly lean right, it does not escape me that regardless of left or right, it still involves politicians...enough said on that:-)

I think we see what we want to see, and being a liberal and a Democrat, I've seen my fair share of this by the right wing Republicans. However, I also know that I have that bias, so I don't lump all Republicans or right wingers into blanket statements. It wouldn't be wise, or accurate to do so.

So you like the Yankees and are Republican? We're mirror opposite Jens, I guess. I'm a bit concerned about the lack of quality candidates, only because I think our political system works better when there's a handful of strong candidates, because it makes them all raise their game and really think through their platforms, etc. so they can earn votes. In election years like this one, the absence of those quality candidates allow them all to be a bit...lazy, if that makes sense...

Hi y'all! Can someone give me a good unbiased run down of the current state of America please? Like, econimy wise, morale wise, how people feel about the president and the upcoming elections etc etc etc I've tried getting my head round it but....it's kinda confusing! I ask because I want to write a good detailed and informed feature article for a national UK newspaper.
... But we have a president right now who believes unemployment will help the economy...that's a pretty desparate statement if you ask me
Complete, utter b.s. The man crafted a comprehensive jobs package, for God's sake. Why must your side -- as a rule -- twist things so much out of context? This is why you guys are polling so miserably. It is this partisan garbage that will ensure Obama's re-election... ...and a new Democratic Congressional majority.

He said 'unemployment benefits will help stimulate the ecomony'...which was then echoed right here by one of your peers...with the rationale that money received from unemployment and other welfare related benefits will go back into the economy...forgetting the fact that you don't have to be unemployed to buy groceries...that's not twisted - those are his words and his rationale...and what's this about 'polling poorly'...you should stop reading the extreme left media tidbits for a moment to catch what's happening in the real world. Show me something that proves money being spent by someone who receiving unemployment benefits is worth more than money spent by someone who's currently employed and providing for themselves and their families
-
Oh yeah - and your last part about 'partisan garbage'....LOL...ever heard of Media Matters? If not, just check out the comments from Sandra Fluke today while on 'The View'...Media matters will be the reason why Obama isn't re-elected if Obama's own track record doesn't do him in first (more likely)...because you are right about one thing - people are sick of partisan baloney and being lied to
-
Btw, speaking of Sandra Fluke, was that even a real 'hearing' she was speaking at last week?

Do you really need me to point out the distinction between those two very different quotes you've attributed to your President? The first one you made is b.s. Now if you want to have the debate about unemployment benefits and if it stimulates the economy, fine. But please don't give attribution of a bogus comment to your President. Knowing you, you'd probably dare to suggest that Bush had a better foreign policy than Obama, too.
-
And in case you hadn't noticed...the economy is improving. Three million private-sector jobs -- and counting -- have been added during his term. I surely don't agree with everything the man has done, despite the positives of his term. Not even close.
-
Republican party knows that the economy is improving slowly but surely. That's why they have changed their strategy to social issues like telling women that they have no voice in their own health care etc. Pretty desperate...they are a party that is imploding and whose demographics portend marginalization in the future. So why are some still supporting the republican party : beats me : and they can't give an answer so I guess we'll never know.

Obama is a great candidate and one that the Dems can be proud of. The republicans on the other hand don't have and can't find a good candidate because the republican brand doesn't work. Their economic policies in particular have been proven to be a massive failure...really trickle down..who believes that works anymore : What do they stand for : government small enough to fit in a bathtub : That so doesn't work : what do you do then about education, health care, infrastructure : They have no answers for anything...so it's not a surprise that they can't find good candidates. So they bring up all the social issues for which they are so out of touch because really they got nothing else.
-
Just my 2 cents but I think Obama is doing a good job. Granted thngs aren't fantastic in America at the min, but things are sh*t everywhere right now. It's not particularly anyone's fault. Give the guy credit where credit's due. He's taking a bad situation and starting to make it better.

A little tidbit for the 'more people are working today' crowd...LOL "As far as ?discouraged? workers who are not looking for a job, that is total rubbish put out by the government. The real story is the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) simply has stopped counting more than 1.2 million of the unemployed in its report Friday. Williams goes on to say, ?The issues here suggest that the headline 8.3% unemployment for January has moved well outside the realm of common experience and credibility, into the arena of election-year political shenanigans.? Williams is such a gentleman. Please take into consideration the government?s ?official? or ?headline? number is only based on people being out of work for 6 months or less. If the unemployment rate was calculated the way BLS did it in 1994 and earlier, the unemployment and underemployment would be 22.5% (according to Shadowstats.com.) " http://usawatchdog.com/8-3-unemployment-lie/ The article goes on to say that some 3 mil long term unemployed have dropped from the unemployment statistics...Heck if you don't count enough people, you can get those stats to under 5% I bet...and Obama would be a shoe in

Dude, that was last friggin' August. Whole new strategy now. Obama's focus is solely on rewarding companies that keep jobs in the U.S. Try and keep up.
