Back in my day we had to...
-
We played outside until the street lights Came on. (Last night I looked down a few blocks near my house and did not see anyone outside).
-
Kids were outside playing all day long & did not take a bottle of water with them! Or a helmet!
-
We didn't need expensive toys "kick the can" involved a metal can. For my Barbie, a box of dominoes became a car, or a table, or whatever Barbie and my imagination decided to build with the dominoes that day.
-
My friends and I rode our bicycles on some roads ... By today's standards are ... Very dangerous I wouldn't dare do the same now!
-
We had a lot of trees in my neighborhood, so fallen branches were easy to find. A stick could be a magic wand, sword, rifle, bow, baseball bat, hockey stick, golf club, cane, metal detector or anything we wanted it to be. They didn't even have designer labels.

They didn't need batteries either.

* We didn't have to .... (Had to ...) Today there is a "summer/ spring" rain... I got caught in it at lunchtime .... I remember running in the rain ... wanting to be out in the rain (If it was a rain with no thunder and lightning. ).... From way back then.......

There weren't any plastic trash bags & recycling didn't exist. We had to take the trash out in brown paper grocery bags & heaven help you if they bust on the way to the trash cans. You had one nasty mess to clean up.
-
We didn't have to worry about GMO's in our food, BPA in our plastic containers, our containers were made of glass, or our food was wrapped in waxed paper. There was not as much cancer, for that reason, I think. The only TV dinners were Swanson and they tasted really poor, however if your mother had to go out, that's what she gave your father to heat in the oven, because there were no microwaves ovens back then. You had to light your gas oven with a big wooden match.
-
I remember we had our milk delivered (of course in quart size glass bottles) And we would buy a 6-pack of RC Cola (16 oz. bottles) and return them for something like 2 cents a bottle for recycling.
-
back then ... We had to walk, ride, or travel to the store. Now, it can be done on the internet ... I favor the old way.
-
Turn a roll of film in to be developed (From a camera) Usually it was week to get the photos. * unless you had a Polaroid Camera Where you could watch them develop Or peel after a minute or two ... A layer Off to see the photo. I saw a movie way back when.... Someone took pictures and they were there instantly ... And I thought what a great idea - I'd like to have one of those.

Back in the day we had vinyl records & cassette tapes along w/ bulky stereo equipment we had to haul each time we moved. Thankfully nowadays we have thousands of albums that can sit in the palm of our hand & fabulous wireless speakers to listen to them without any skips, pops or crackling. Sure wish they had this technology in the 70's/80's.

That is funny and a flashback of all the boxes of records and priority of where to hook the stero up and run the speaker Wires etc...

We saved glass soda bottles and took them back to the store when they were empty & got the deposit back. It was anywhere from a few cents to a dime.

I just said that on the previous page. Guess you missed it.

The best toys never do.

Back in my day we had to... DO SOMETHING! Chores...chores...and more chores
-
We had to constantly adjust the V shaped antenna on top of the TV, depending on the channel we were watching. We called them rabbit ears...There was no cable TV.

You didn't mention if you pounded the TV with your fist and then the picture was good. Or had a good picture at the rabbit ears, but it went away when you went back to sit down. Someone would say "just stay there"
