Some Thoughts About Police and Violence in America
-
In today's Sunday News, in letters to the editor, one person wrote that "God is sending everyone a message by allowing all of this violence, but no one's listening." I don't think God is full of wrath.... So easy for people to use God as en excuse to kill or for all the violence.

The sad part of living in Israel is having to have a "safe room" with gas masks A woman I know tells me about her elderly parents and about the safe rooms. As a race, I give the Israelis a lot of credit, they are a very very strong people!
I actually went into a family's mamad. Not for any security reasons. They just wanted to show me. It looked just like any room in the house. It was nice, other than the lack of windows. I wouldn't mind spending time in that room, but obviously its horrible that it even needs to exist.

Exactly! God sends us messengers of Love and Peace to show us HOW to avoid all of this violence, and not enough people are listening. Where Have All The Flowers Gone?

More shootings, more killings - hate watching the news anymore. Just once, can't they show something about even one person doing an act of kindness.
-
Let me be caught, doing a random act of kindness ... A couple of years ago, I felt led to tell a police officer (at a public place) how much I appreciated what they do. He seemed a little caught off guard - but that's ok. Afterward, he thankfully smiled.
-
Where is the TV show, catching random acts of kindness? A kind of replay...like the do in all those murder and violence recreations?! I still believe those shows are planting the wrong seed...fear and violence!! We need to plant some love and kindness seeds on TV and in the news!!
-
The media blames most of these violent acts on mental illness. Why doesn't the relatives and/or friends of these evil people have them get help or treatment?

If people are afraid, they'll obey and spend more money. If people are happy and content, they think for themselves and not feel the need to keep up with the Joneses.

Scary, terrible times we live in when those who are sworn in to protect the general paublic are victims of gun violence.

And equally scary when those sworn to protect the public are perpetrators of needless violence.

More bombings last night in Chelsea section of NYC & Seaside Park, NJ. NYC mayor sez this was intentional. No sh*t Sherlock! Very, very lucky no one was killed or injured. This is WAR These idiots must be stopped.

One of the biggest problems we have is the judicial system itself, that keeps recycling violent criminals back out onto the streets for the public and police to deal with, over and over and over again. Listened to a police officer humbly state this case on the news the other night.

With the world's highest incarceration rate, I don't think that holds water. What does hold water is that our prison and parole systems completely fail to equip prisoners for reentry into society, while a series of insane laws and policies make it extremely hard for formerly incarcerated people to get a legal job.

Might be sleeping on the train tonite! A pipe bomb was found near a train station on my route home. This is like the 3rd or 4th one in NY/NJ in two days.... What's wrong with people?

Not enough hugs when they were children. Want to make the world a better place? Give children love and affection. Maybe they'll be nicer when they're in charge. Even if they're not, what do we have to lose?

It most certainly does hold water. Violent criminals are out for a very short period of time to assault the public again, and then are right back in prison. Since marijuana was moved to being a maximally serious drug offence, the prisons are plugged full of inmates who have done nothing more than enjoy smoking peaceful old pot. Including Vietnam Veterans who have been in prison for several years for the same offence. Dangerous abusive drunks and drunk drivers are cycled through in the same manner. You should study Nebraska's Good Time Law. Let the holy rollers out and make room for Violent Criminals to be KEPT THERE!!!

Actually not true. Violent offenders make up a much larger percentage of the prison population than drug offenders. But the evidence does not suggest that "lock 'em up and throw away the key" is an effective remedy for violent crime: http://www.vox.com/2016/9/15/12930280/jay-z-video-drugs-prison
