A more light hearted place for your comments and observations.. Several to kick off: The British National Anthem is being played in the long form consisting two verses - the Team GB women's soccer team clearly hadn't been fully briefed and were seen mouthing wordlessly the second verse looking perplexed at the outset of their opening match. Expect frantic e-mails to be circulated amongst Team GB competitors and word sheets with the second verse to be learnt before the next time it's played. The soccer match ball has been officially named "The Albert" from the cockney rhyming slang Albert Hall - Ball. The North Korean women's soccer teams first game kick off was delayed one hour when the team spotted the video introduction of the players had their faces and names shown against the South Korean flag - egg on organisers faces, very humble apologies tendered and the game delayed as the video introduction was recompiled with the right flag. First outing too for Stella's Team GB soccer kit - predominantly white with greyish Union Jack outline evident on close examination. The support staff - coach etc have more colour. Martin Update: I've now revised the thread title to embrace the Paralympic Games due to be held here in the UK from 29th August - 9th September.

More on the women's kit: They played in the "away" kit: http://images.prodirectsport.com/v3_products/V3_1_Main/45361.jpg Presumably in contrast to the New Zealand kit which was predominantly black. The "home" kit is mainly blue: http://edhenderson.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/team-gb-london-2012-football-replica-kit.jpg Martin

The Video was pre-recorded, it was sent up to Hampden from London - I wonder if some heads rolled Poor sales for the games up here resulted in ticket being given away. I hope they don't mix up the second verse with this one. (I don't mean the Macca Song "This One" I mean This One, yeah i know its all getting rather confusing Lord, grant that Marshal Wade, May by thy mighty aid, Victory bring. May he sedition hush, and like a torrent rush, Rebellious Scots to crush, God save the Queen. And finally, the SFA (Scottish Football Association) didn't want Scots fooballers playing for team GB, not that it matters that much because Stuart Pierce never picked any the twist in tale is the SFA are selling team GB football strips in their sports shop - bunch of hypocrites.

I may stream a few of these ..... U.S. coverage .... besides being delayed and shown at a much much later time .... they start throwing in such a story on one of the athletes ..... that the Olympics become the background .... then you see something that may have happened two to three days ago (I'd like to see a time stamp on this footage for a very brief time .... showing the date and time the event really took place) ..... The time difference isn't so great that I miss something ..... it just depends if one of the stations wants to air some of it in the afternoon.

FINALLY I hear Come Together, but it's not even a Beatle singing it! Happy, but angry at the same time.

Some absolutely beautiful footage and pictures and history on nbc here in the first few minutes. Plus...2 very nice pictures of John and Paul in the mix. The tribute to working class heroes and the industrial age was awesome!

Tucked away in the myriad of factoids presented by the BBC team at least: The female percussionist who played through the opening sequence and later during the torch arrival is Dame Evelyn Glennie: http://www.evelyn.co.uk/evelyn-glennie.html Who has been profoundly deaf since birth. Apparently she mostly feels the rhythms through the soles of her feet... Inspirational Event - Inspirational People as well... Martin

Okay, I need some help here: What was these dresses about? Who were the faces and why? I've been googling like a good'n to no avail yet.. I might have to rewatch the parade again as Hazel Irvine on the BBC presentation did make passing reference to the dresses but I missed the detail. Martin

Stella has posted some picures from the opening ceremony and preparation on her FB and Twitter. This is my favorite:

Also, I posted this in the Olympic thread in the Rock Show forum, but Paul's tweeted picture of himself prior to his performance was THE most retweeted photo related to the opening ceremony. Queen Elizabeth was most tweeted about, and Beckham in the speed boat was the most tweeted about by women.
