Internet Censorship Bill
-
The Internet Blacklist Legislation - known as PROTECT IP Act in the Senate and Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House - is a threatening sequel to last year's COICA Internet censorship bill. Like its predecessor, this legislation invites Internet security risks, threatens online speech, and hampers Internet innovation. Urge your members of Congress to reject this Internet blacklist campaign in both its forms!
Here's the petition. https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#!/petition/stop-e-parasite-act/SWBYXX55 -
Not looking good right now. Remember folks, even if you don't live in the US, if they pass this bill, other countries will follow suit. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15757282

Save the Internet - the pressure is working! Update: 29 November 2011 The vote could happen at any time now, but free speech champions in Congress say our outcry will help, and one of them - Senator Wyden - is even going to block the vote by reading out our petition names for hours! Let's reach 1 million! http://www.avaaz.org/en/save_the_internet/?fp

We need to restore the Bill of rights orginally put together in the US Constitution as well. It is a shame that this type of thing is being repeated. This happened in I think the 50s only then it was with a communist scare. I wasn't even born yet. Or was barely being hatched love doris

Every time I think I can surface and deal with the US BS I realize there a conspiracy out there to undermine any civilization where the people start to raise up and have democracy. It here people and it coming to take down and destroy USA. The good news no matter how good their guys are there some 14 year old kid out there that's better and he got friends. Obama is a total sell out to big banks and Wall Street. Watch the end of American by Naomi Wolf about the end of democracy. I voted for Obama.. 'fool me once, shame on you: fool me twice, same on me'. watch than and Vote Ron Paul or we are all screwed.

Nobody believed me, did they.

-
Very sad about that site.

BarbB:
If it passes, many of us won't be able to visit this site anymore.
well this site is located in the UK instead of the USA, ain't it? There's no selling of downloads here... except Paul's new site and he's got his own copyrights, so...
-
^ Yes, but many of us use avatars and post links to Youtube. Since a lot of us live in the US this site would be blocked.

http://conversation.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/sopa-pipa-stop-online-piracy-act-copyright-wikipedia-reddit-blackout/ So could this affect us in the UK? Quite possibly, yes. The act specifically talks about blocking access to foreign websites that are outside the reach of US law, such as The Pirate Bay which is hosted in Sweden. So basically, if you live in America, and you tried to access a website such as this that provides links to copyrighted material on Youtube, this website would be blocked to the user. It wouldn't be blocked to anyone else in the world, but if the US passes this law, many countries will follow suite.

ok, I didn't get it, it would be blocked for the people living in the USA, yes, I guess, like youtube would be blocked too, etc. Or virtually any website, google, facebook, twitter, wikipedia, yahoo... Kind of like shutting down the internet in the USA. I don't think it will happen, and if it does it won't last long. It's kind of like shutting down all the TV channels...

Well, Megadownload is gone. Since a couple of days Pirate Bay is blocked here. Even though it's originated in Sweden, we don't have access it to it here anymore in NL. So you're right BarB, once the US starts, the whole world will/can follow (as usual) and it could damn sure affect this forum as well. No matter where you live. There will be a day Internet will be censored to hell and back and you won't have access to it anymore like we have now.
