Drug/ Alcohol Free? In my case I never have been addicted to an illegal drug or alcohol. I was prescribed Xanax for YEARS to treat complex PTSD. It helped keep me calm. However in doing so it also screwed up my judgement in life and I allowed some people to revictimize me, thus again adding to my PTSD. Now I am off Xanax. It is hard to accept what I allowed to transpire in my life and now I have to deal with it all anyway, sans Xanax. I would rather be drug and alcohol free: Here is Stevie Nicks on drugs:

      Stevie Nicks on Klonopin:
Klonopin is in the same benzodiazepine family as Xanax. Xanax IS as ADDICTIVE AS HEROIN!
*i wish I had NEVER taken a Xanax!

I only take it once or twice a month if I have something particularly stressful going on (like the day I met my daughter's future in-laws - long story!) or if I have to fly somewhere. Just the process of getting to the airport, checking bag, getting through security and to the gate, especially at Atlanta's airport (busiest in the world I think) is enough to make most people anxious! I'm flying to London on the 18th, so Xanax will be my friend! I would not recommend taking it every day though! I didn't take any in June and only 2 in July. The reason I started on it was because of job stress and burnout (I was an RN in the O.R. for 34 years) I retired from working in the O.R. rooms on May 1st and it's been great! They let me stay on and take care of ordering suture and a few other items, and stocking the specialty suture carts. I can make my own hours and only end up working about 2 hours on Tuesday and 1 hour on Friday. I was going to quit but they said I could just do this which is totally stress free and I enjoy it! Life is good! P.S. I don't drink alcohol hardly at all. Last time was in 2014 at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya (near Cancun) at an all-inclusive Beatles 5-day thing. I had to have a few frozen strawberry daiquiris which is the only thing I like that has alcohol in it! Plus, we were partying with Pete and Roag Best!

^^ I understand. "Everything in moderation, including moderation." - Oscar Wilde I never thought I would be giving the warning about a drug. It was prescribed and believe me everyone out there, it was Hell to get off of. Just be careful of that stuff. I know now just because a doctor says it's okay, use your own common sense. a tranquilizer every day for years is not good. I feel much better now. ?

^^ True. In my case I didn't have the luxury or time for a rehab facility. I would suggest anyone coming off anything to go to rehab as you can die if not properly supervised! This is what it was like, no lie. Cold Turkey - John Lennon

I quit cigarettes Cold Turkey many many years ago. It was a pouring rainstorm and I started going through ashtrays and the garbage looking for a bit left on a ciggy. I looked at what I was doing, and I disgusted myself enough to quit!! Was so glad I did, even though I gained weight at first.

There is nothing special, or particularly desirable, in being drug and alcohol free. Hundreds of millions of people use mood-altering substances with appropriate moderation and care and not only suffer no ill effects but actually benefit in a variety of ways. Some, of course, get into serious trouble with them and may be better off abstaining entirely, but they form a small subset of users. The demonization of these substances is one of the great errors of modern society, and the "war on drugs" has done nothing but harm.

We cannot deny there is a wave of unnessessary prescription and heroin drug overdoses in the USA. Yes people should be able to take prescription drugs. People have anxiety, pain, and depression. But the ABUSE of drugs is what I am referring to, not therapeutic doses. And I was never referring to drugs prescribed to treat legitimate illness. I am not advocating the use, or non use, of "illegal drugs." Marijuana should be decriminalized. But no one should get stoned and drive around and put other people in danger. Alcohol has killed more people than any illegal drug. It is just as dangerous as any "illegal drug." Cigarettes are in the same group, but they are legal so the government can get tax money. Just like alcohol.

Triple Amen to that!!! Marijuana is already legal under the 1st Amendment when used in a "religious context". It has been used for Spiritual and Meditation and other reasons for centuries upon centuries.

Oh, there's absolutely no doubt that alcohol is more harmful than pot. It's more physically damaging, more likely to lead to dangerous behavior, and more addicting. One of the crazy things about most drug laws is they bear no relationship to the actual risks of the substances involved. That said, prohibition just doesn't work. It simply creates an underground market with all the violence and misery inevitably involved.

Yeah - I've been watching The Making of the Mob: Chicago (and saw the NY one too) which graphically shows the results of Prohibition!

"The Obama administration isn't going to reclassify marijuana and remove it from the list of the most dangerous drugs." CBS report http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2016/08/11/marijuana-classification/

The Republicans and Conservatives were the one's who pushed to give it a harsher classification to begin with. Throughout history, it has always been the Liberals and Democratic minded people who push to decriminalize it. "A nurse practitioner and two former Democratic Governors filed petitions asking federal agencies to have marijuana reclassified as a drug with acceptable medical uses" (From the article link)
