Did you have a British or an American penpal when you were young? I remember after The Beatles played Ed Sullivan and everyone was trying to imitate their clothes, their slang, anything English in America. Some of us signed up for British penpals? Anyone else remember that? I think signed up through a magazine, but no one ever wrote me back Anyone else experience this? Probably 50s and up would remember that time period.

Growing up, I had 3 pen-pals. One was from Scotland, another one from France, and finally one from Canada. I still have pictures and letters somewhere. Maybe, I should write them all a letter and see what became of them. They're probably all married with kids by now.

I had a pen pal that I "met" through the UK mag, Beatles Magazine. She was a German au pair living in London. I actually went to London and she showed me some places I had never seen before.

That's what she said. Sorry couldn't resist it!

A lot of kisses on the bottom, I'll be glad I got 'em.

I had pen pals all over the world, thanks to The Beatles! Over 250 - but of course, back then stamps were much cheaper. I've made some great lasting friendships & now keep in touch via phone & computer with a few of my original pen pals.

I used to write to quite a few pen pals who were fans of The Beatles. Have very happy memories, and wonder how I had the time to write to so many. Most of them I have lost touch with, but a few I kept in touch with and discovered a couple of them again through social media sites.

I originally corresponded through a Hugh Jackman site with several women, and then in 2006 got to meet them when I went to England with my kids when they were 19.

Aren't we all essentially pen pals? Isn't that what social media is?
