Anyone here living in the country and loving it?

My DREAM has always been to move to the country. I still would like to. But, but, but there are draw backs, too. While spending the weekend with dear friends two weeks ago at their house on five acres in the country, believe it or not, about 15-20 trucks congregated in the lot next to their house. They just all drove down into the woods to party. There are no houses other than my friends' for miles. Loud music until early morning hours kept us all awake. The next night the law showed up and arrested a few of them as they were appearing again in instant replay mode. So, suddenly my friends' idealic (is that a word?) little piece of heaven in the country wasn't so peaceful anymore. Then we hoped they didn't think WE had called the cops. We hadn't, but when you're out so far away from town, you don't want to make your neighbors mad. Having said that, I still would like to build a log cabin out in the woods someday and live in the country. Anyone here live in the country and loving it or not?

oh yeah! I would love to get away from it all. We always say if we hit the lotto we'd buy a couple of houses on some acreage. I enjoy my privacy & would love to have a house with more land. Your friends may have a bunch of idiots just partying on the empty lots. Shame.

Right. They probably thought no one would ever know they were down there. Seems there are trade offs in all of life.

I hate being too closed in. And I like my privacy.

Yeah, they have a huge garden. We had organic vegetables, real mint leaves in our mint juleps, three outside cats. It was just nice. Clean air. Large, nice porch.

A long time ago I lived in the country. I lived on approx. 400+ acres. The home was so beautiful yet simple. It was designed and built by the owner and the roof of the home in the main room which was very spacious was designed as an upside down hull of a wooden sailboat with plenty of skylights to let in the sun. Also there were two sets of large glass and wood doors that opened from the main room to a huge porch where one could watch nature. The outside of the home was redwood. Very rustic, yet modern. There was a pond and I tended a herd of pet goats. I had lots of dogs, a few manx cats, and it was wonderful. We also had a road that ran through the inside of the property in a circle that was 2.5 miles long and I would walk or run that road everyday. (no prying eyes to watch me and harass me as in the city.) Never had a problem with noise or people, except hunters that let their dogs run through the property to kill our deer. I miss it there.
Lots of wildlife too.
It was a fabulous life. I hope one day you can find the same happy life.
And one day I hope to escape where I live now, in the city, well actually a city that is not BIG but everyone is nosy and annoying... and be back in such a country setting

Wow. Yep! That's what I'm wanting to do
The squash was the sweetest I've ever had. No pesticides. Truly organic.

I could live in the country. No traffick noise. You wouldn't hear any gossip for a year after the event. Grow your own veggies; can them. I bet my aunt Bonnie still doesn't have any tv reception. Nice and quiet she sews those hand made quilts. I loved the country growing up.

So you grew up in the country? Nice! Does Aunt Bonnie make lots of different designs or just one or two she's really good at with quilts? That's tedious work, I would think.

Didn't grow up there. She and my mother were really good at making designed quilts, i never got good at it. They used to have to make use of used clothing from these large familys they had. They made quilts. I was in the country recently and these cows ran over to the fence when i walked by and carried on badly mooing, I never saw cows act like that, walked right along the side of me, someone said they were hungry they thought I had food.

I miss driving through the country at night taking the backroads through the rolling hills and corn fields and listening to the cricket chorus's away from the city lights where the sky is pitch black and filled with millions of small crystal clear and bright stars. In the late summer your senses were filled with the rich smell of clover and you could feel the air coming through the windows change from warm to cool and back again as you travelled down and up through the valleys and crests of the hills. Very

Yeah, they probably did. That's what they did sometimes when I was at Grandpa's or Daddy's, when he had some. Cows are creatures I never have connected with. They're not smart like cats or dogs. It's hard to know what they're thinking.

i live in the country & love it! No constantly hearing sirens at all times of day or night. Smaller cities are around 15-20 min. drive, Peaceful, quiet, great place to raise a family.
