Chadwick Boseman, 'Black Panther' Actor, Dies of Cancer at 43
Chadwick played James Brown too in a Mick Jagger produced movie, that was an excellent bio pic. This is very sad news. He was too young to have to go.
I agree! So sad!

I'm not big on comic book movies, so Black Panther didnt' mean as much to me as it did to many people, but still... Jeez. 43 years old, and so much ahead of him. I have zero doubt that Chadwick Boseman would have joined the likes of Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington among the very few Black actors to be top-tier Hollywood leading men and stay that way for a long time. And it's even sadder hearing all the stories pouring out about the man's kindness and generosity.
We think we know celebrities, but of course we really don't. But when they pass, you can read between the lines of the reactions and glean what people who knew them really thought. For example, when Lauren Bacall died, the reactions were polite, respectful, and focused almost entirely on her professional accomplishments -- the movies with Bogie, the Tony Awards, etc. There were basically no heartwarming stories about Bacall, who was rather well known to be a b***h on wheels.
Contrast that with the outpouring of love we're seeing for Chadwick Boseman, or for Robin Williams a few years ago. These guys were loved, and it shows.

Remember what I said a page or two back about this being a particularly awful year for deaths? Double that.

Well said. I wasn't into Black Panther either but I do remember that I was very surprised about about Robin Williams. Both too young.

By chance last night I happened to catch another of Chadwick Boseman's starring roles, in "Marshall," on the BET cable channel. Boseman plays Thurgood Marshall -- who later went on to become a Supreme Court justice -- as a young lawyer for the NAACP, taking on nearly impossible cases. It's worth finding and watching if you haven't seen it. It's fascinating and atmospheric, and maybe a better showcase for Boseman's talent than "Black Panther." The whole cast is good, but when Boseman is onscreen you can't take your eyes off him.

I want to see that, also "42" where he portrays Jackie Robinson and "Get On Up" where he portrays James Brown!

This is interesting info I came across on Linda's mother, Louise. Side note: I was also born in Cleveland, OH and when I was a kid, every year my mom would take me downtown to see all the Christmas window displays, see "Mr. Jinglaling" on Halle's 7th floor (Halle Berry named after the dept. store!) and we'd go to see the HUGE Christmas tree at Sterling-Lindner's Dept. Store. Of course Linda Eastman was named for her mom's maiden name (Lindner) and her middle name after her mom's first name. Then Linda's sister was also named Louise, Heather's middle name is Louise, and James's middle name is Louis! Both of Stella's great-grandmothers on the Eastman/Linder side were named Stella! AND, Lee Eastman's father's name was Louis!

I may need to seek those out. He was a massive talent and would have been a star his whole life, in a league with the likes of Robert Redford.

In remembrance of 9-11-2001
All that lost their lives and the sadness for their families and friends.
Many will never forget.

When we remember 9/11, remember that about that many Americans die from COVID-19 every three days. And no one ever seems to hold a memorial for the hundreds of thousands killed in the war that George W. Bush used 9/11 to justify.

Dammit Bruce all I was saying was in remembrance and you had to @#$% it up by adding this comment. If you made it as a stand alone then okay. But to wreck a moment taken for the day - I find it low and disgusting of you.

As I watched the ceremony with the Obamas and the Clintons and heard the stories, it brought back all the memories...seeing and smelling the burning from across the water near me, all of the many people in my area who worked in the Twin Towers and their stories, the happy stories such as how the surf was up that day and the surfer friends who worked there, all called out, or the neighbor who got there as the first plane hit, turned around and made the ferry back to Jersey. The cruise I took to Europe and at each port, the bands who cheered Americans in support, or met us with bands playing God Bless America. It seemed so devastating at the time and over the years, the reminders and prayers for those who died and the support for those left behind. Last night, the elephant in the room at that ceremony was Covid. The comparison of people who died in what was a disasterous tragedy, compared to the number of people who are dying every 4 days or so, well why aren't people up in arms about the greater disaster. 60-75% of people who didn't need to die!? People in my area have been making this comparison and wondering how this is being allowed, as well as the fires on the west coast and the smoke and orange air.

The feeling is mutual. Seriously, I have zero respect for anyone solemnly memorializing the 9/11 casualties and ignoring the many, many more casualties of America's wars of choice and lies. That's what I find truly despicable. And I imagine the moderators will step in and stop this thread any moment, but I couldn't live with myself if I didn't say this.

She was so brave to hang in there and she was such an exceptional woman in her quest for equal rights. So very very sad.
I got the newsflash on Network News and literally 10 min later Mitch McConnell was talking about replacing her!! Her body was still warm!! Please get out to vote out these sick and immoral goon squad thugs. What a coincidence that Drumf was just talking about the sanctity of life and then the replacement of supreme court justices right as it had been announced that Ruth Bader Ginsberg had died. You could hear the crowd cried out to him that she died.

Trump needs to wait until after the election and whoever wins gets to pick the new Justice! Like they made Obama not appoint who he wanted and then Trump after winning got to pick his buddy Brett Kavanaugh!!
