Angela Lansbury was one of the true greats, although the movies rarely made adequate use of her talents. TV, of course, did make good use of her, but "Murder, She Wrote" used at best 5% of her abilities. I was lucky enough to see her onstage twice. The first was the original touring company of "Sweeney Todd" that played Los Angeles in 1980 or so, and to this day it remains the most stunning, utterly overwhelming show of any kind I've ever seen. She and costar George Hearn were absolutely riveting.

About 7 years ago I saw her play Madame Arcati in "Blythe Spirit," when she was 88 years old. Personally, I'll be happy to still be ambulatory at 88. She was hilarious. Lansbury was one of those magical performers who could just walk on stage and, without saying a word, simply own the place. By multiple accounts she was also a thoroughly kind and generous person.

A personal aside: In 1973 I played Mr. Babcock in my high school's production of "Mame," in which Lansbury had starred on Broadway (and of course we all listened to the cast album). That was also the year the movie version came out, for which the studio passed over Lansbury and gave the role to Lucille Ball -- certainly a major talent in her own right, but as wrong for that part as any human could possibly be. The movie bombed, and deserved to. It just was not good. Sometimes Hollywood is really effed up.

I think it was 2009 when I went to see "Next To Normal" with my oldest daughter who was attending NYU for a semester at the time. The show was over and my daughter wanted to go and get her Playbill signed (BTW - Alice Ripley is one of the nicest Broadway actors we ever met) and as we were going there I looked down the street and saw Angela Lansbury. She was in some show not sure which one but she was out there signing Playbill's for people at the stage door line in her 80's which I thought was awesome. Like you said, she was an incredible talent and will be missed. Awesome that you got to see her perform twice, must have been an incredible thrill.

Leslie Jordan died today, after crashing his car into a building in L.A. He starred in "Will & Grace", among other shows. This is the 2nd eerie celeb fatal car crash this year, the other being Anne Heche, who smashed into a home at full speed. Strange.

I was just devastated to hear this! I loved Leslie Jordan and followed his funny Instagram videos! Watched him on Will & Grace, The Cool Kids and Call Me Kat. He was born exactly 12 days before me (same year) 😢

A social media acquaintance of mine knew Leslie Jordan and reports that he was as sweet and funny and lovely as you would expect from having watched him over the years. She's devastated.

It had been erroneously reported by TMZ about a week ago that he had passed away. Saw a recent photo of Kris Kristofferson giving Jerry his award for being inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame. Jerry was bedridden and looked quite sickly.
