The other day a young black bird was on the ground inside the fence. It would not fly, and so I gently picked him/her up in my hands and held it close.(I began to hear Paul's song Blackbird in my head of course.) I noticed it's wing had been hurt irrepairably by an animal, probably a cat from what injuries I could see. I knew it was going to die, so I put the poor thing on a nice, soft nesting material in a quiet place. It stayed alive for about an hour or so, then it died. I felt good that it came to me to find shelter, so it could die in peace and love.
