TVs may be better now, the resolution & all...but I don't 'get' flat screens. You still need to put the cable box somewhere & the remotes & the audio box (bose system or whatever), maybe a vcr or a DVd recorder or another recording device. So where do you put all that stuff now? I need to go shopping for a new TV so I'm trying to 'get' it. But now you need a shelf under the flat screen.

I don't worry so much about the visibility of a "shelf" or stand for a tv... but I'm anal as all hell about wires. I gutted my basement just so I could run speaker wires and power chords through my walls. (and bought a Bose paintable in-wall speaker setup) Then vs Now? Books (then)- I hate reading on a "device."

OMG yes! I think I only paid $12.50 per ticket the first time I saw Paul in '76! And George was only $7.50 in '74!

Computers are better now than when they filled a room.

THAT I agree with. But you do have to keep updating programs or whatever all the time.

You're forgetting the REALLY annoying thing - remote controls. Remember those days when all the controls you needed were available on the TV set? Now you need at least 3 different remote controls and unless you can find the right one at the right moment you can't do ANYTHING!! And you spend ages looking under sofa cushions for the one you need to select something off a DVD menu because you can't do that on the actual DVD player.... Put more buttons on the DVD players and TV sets themselves again! PLEASE!!

yeah you are right! I used to be able to walk up to my VCR & program it in 2 minutes. Time on time off, channel. done. Then you had to turn on the TV for on screen programming after finding the remotes...and do it all. Now...who knows what I will need with a new tv.

This is the most important innovation.

It maybe just me..'cause I'm OLD now! But a lot of things were better then, like..music..TV, you didn't have to pay a monthly fee for! and food, 'cause now they seem to have a recall once a month on things like fresh produce(lettus and spinach) Don't know anymore what is going to make you sick!! And last but not least..the AIR..YES, the air was better back then. You have to agree on that, right?!! What is better now? Travel is one..it's much faster..in cars..on air planes..and in some cases, you don't have to even leave your house to chat with friends from around the world!

The air is much better now for some of us. I would have to say that music is better now because you can listen to more from yesterday and today. The variety in our grocery stores has never been better. We used to have a lot of British items. Now we get more American, Mediterranean, east Asian.

Television programming was better then....... there were only a handful of channels and everyone watched the same thing, and it was a family activity. News reported the news. Today there are too many channels..... cable and satellite co.'s charge too much, and there are still too many commercials, and the programming often lacks any kind of morality..... news channels can't report the news without discriminating bias..... it's like the song..... 57 channels and nothing's on.
