Pre-concert film
-
Hey all, First time posting here, hope to get some good information before my first McCartney show in Buffalo next month. Got lucky during Am-Ex presales, side view, but I'm in the building! Anyway, Ive seen a few videos of what looks like a preconcert film with live dj. From the few videos ive seen, it has me even more excited. Was hoping you good people could provide some details. Also, has Paul played Jet on the "Out There" tour? I know some find it cheesy, but its one of my favorites. Thanks!

I've seen Paul McCarntney live many times, and will be there in Buffalo as well as in Toronto the prior weekend at the shows. So here's my view...and others may have a different take. There's usually an exciting vibe outside the arena that starts early, so it isn't a bad idea to spend some time outside with other fans and take it in. The announces start time? Forget it. While there have been opening acts, that has not been the case for the last couple of tours. The screens have been showing a running video that's sort of a career collage, and this can run through mre than once before the man takes the stage. Builds anticipation. You've probably heard 3 hours, and the show is usually close to that. He never leave the stage during the performance. The band takes a break, and during that time he does some acoustic. Much of the on-stage banter with the audience is really pretty scripted, as anyone who seen multiple shows will attest. And there are perhaps 20 or more songs that will be played at every show and have been seemingly forever. That's always a source of discussion and objection on the internet, although I'm not sure why. If you've never seen McCartney live and he did not do Yesterday, you'd feel disappointed. So he doesn't disappoint. But there are always other selections from the catalogue as well. Check the setlists for the immediate prior shows on setlist.fm and you will find that it seems a couple of the added songs alternate back and forth from show to show. But sometimes there's an unexpected throw-in, and hopefully we'll get one in Buffalo. Side view? I wouldn't be too disappointed on that. While I am generally on the floor for shows, side view at the arena is not a bad seat at all. Finally....Jet. He hasn't done that one at all on the "Out There" shows and it seems it was dropped from the setlist for at least a few years now. Not sure why as being the 2nd or 3rd song when it was part of the set seemed to get the crowd into it.

Jet has been performed in Japan and Korea and most recently at the May 12 benefit show in NYC, the setlist from which I would be very happy with.

Congrats on getting tix to Buffalo for your first Paul concert!
If things (and Paul!) are running on time
, the pre-show DJ comes on at around 7:30 pm and plays various mixes and mash-ups of Paul and Beatles songs for about 20 minutes. He leaves the stage, and the film starts at around 8:00 pm and is about 30 minutes long. It is shown on two long screens that run from the stage up to the lighting grid, one on each side of the stage. It's not really a movie, more like a collage of film clips and photos of Paul through the years, with Paul songs playing along. Hope that helps!

I'd love to be able to purchase a copy of that video...or even the soundtrack. Having seen it quite a few times
, I get chills when it's coming to an end!

They change it slightly every year by altering a song or two and/or some of the photos or film clips. But agree that it is exciting when you know it is almost over and time for Paul to take the stage!

Which was removed from the film this year--because Paul started performing it in the set! Mrs. Vandebilt replaced it.

I think he should keep both in the setlist.
